WEEK OF OCTOBER 9, 2016


Report card conferences are rapidly approaching and it is time to start
scheduling for this. There will be a sign-up sheet outside the classroom for
you to sign. If you cannot get to the classroom, you may e-mail me your time. The date is
Wednesday, October 19 beginning at 1:30 in ten-minute increments up until 5:00. I will update the sheet and also e-mail what times are still available as times are taken. Please make
sure that you have given me your e-mail address or you will miss these updates.

MATH

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

This week, students will learn


how to round numbers to the
nearest 10 and 100 and use estimation to help
them add and subtract numbers by estimating
reasonable answers. They will be adding and
subtracting greater numbers. We will continue
to compare numbers in order to attain mastery.
Please continue to practice their basic addition
and subtraction facts with them. They will
need to have a good grasp of these facts in order to do well in adding and subtracting greater numbers and for regrouping. Tutoring for
math is from 3:30-4:30 . Title I tutoring is also
available.

This week in Language, we


will work on pronouns and
their place in sentences. In
spelling, this weeks words
have the sound of long i spelled with the letter i and
igh. In r eading, we will finish up our unit on stories that are handed down. They will be interviewing
parents for stories that have been handed down.
They will also edit their paragraphs on a first meeting with someone. Their first Probe Book has been
assigned: Who Am I? We will prepare their composition book for the project in class. They will have
two weeks to complete this project. Due date will be
announced this week. Tutoring for reading begins on
Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30. Title I tutoring is also
available.

HANDWRITING
Students will continue to practice cursive upper and lower case letters as well as
connections, spacing and size.

SCIENCE-This week students will learn about the desert and identify
and describe the planets in our solar system as well as identify the inner
and outer planets.

RELIGION-This week students will learn about the history of the rosary
in preparation for making a rosary of their own. This weeks Word of
the Week is parable-a simple story with a moral or a story told to
teach a lesson like Jesus did in the Bible . This Weeks Good News
comes from Luke 18:1.
SOCIAL STUDIES-Students will use a map scale to determine distances
on a map and review and assess what they learned in the chapter.

REMINDERS
Golf Tournament
Sign up to play in the annual Diocesan Golf Tournament. If your child is interested in playing as well, they
will be excused from school for that day. The tournament will take place on October 12 at Painted Dunes
Golf Course. Entry is $125 for individuals and $500 per team. There is a discount if you sign up prior to September 26th. It is a four man scramble with registration at 11:00 a.m. and a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. Included are lunch, green fees, cart range balls, steak dinner, goodie bag and a chance to win door prizes. For
more information, call the Office of Education at 872-8426.
We are collecting pop tops for Ronald McDonald House. We have nearly filled a large collection box and are
working towards filling even more! Help us out by sending in pop tops (soda tabs)! We could win a class party! Thank you to all who have sent in tops! We are doing an awesome job!
ALL parents need to have Virtus training. There will be a training on October 17 at 4:00. Be sure to register
online and attend. Returning parents need to be recertified-training is online. Pictures for volunteer badges
will on October 7 in the San Pedro room from 7:30-8:00 and 3:15-4:00.
Please send in any prayer intentions that you may have so that we can pray for them during our morning announcements and during our Friday rosary. Dont forget to send your children with their rosary on Fridays!
