1.5 Zones of Confidence ZOC diagram

IndigitalchartsthedataqualityisspecifiedinZonesofConfidence(ZOC).
TheZOCdiagramdescribesthequalityofthebathymetryinthedifferentareas.TherearefivequalitycategoriesintheZOCdiagram(A1toD).
Untilautumn2013,mainlycategoryBandCareusedforNorwegiancoastalwatersbasedonthefollowingclassifications:ENCswithsourcedatafromoldersurveying(before1960)are
givenZOCvalueC,whileENCswithsourcedatafromsurveyingyoungerthanca1960aregivenZOCvalueB.
From1s tofJanuary2014theareasmeasuredwithmultibeamsonarandwhichotherwisemeetstherequirementswillbegiventhecategoriesA1orA2.Thedelimitationofthedifferent
zoneswillbeaddedintheENCstoalwaysshowwhichzoneyouarein.
Navigatorsmustshowgreatcarewhenusing(D)GPSandelectronicchartsinareaswitholdersurveysasaccuracyandcompletenessofthedepthindicatorsarenotinaccordancewith
modernstandards.
Additionally,thenavigatorsshouldensurethatnavigationatalltimesisconductedwithgoodsafetymarginsandinaccordancewithpropernavigationalpractices.

couldbeusedtoindicatethis).
b)Sweptareaswheretheclearancedepthisaccuratelyknownbuttheactualseabeddepthisnotaccuratelyknownmaybeaccordeda'higher'ZOC(i.e.A1orA2)providingpositionaland
depthaccuraciesofthesweptdepthmeetsthecriteriainthisTable.Inthisinstance,DepthRangeValue1(DRVAL1)maybeusedtospecifythesweptdepth.Thepositionaccuracycriteria
applytotheboundariesofsweptareas.
c)SURSTA,SURENDandTECSOUmaybeusedtoindicatethestartandenddatesofthesurveyandthetechniqueofsoundingmeasurement.
2PositionAccuracyofdepictedsoundingsat95%CI(2.45sigma)withrespecttothegivendatum.Itisthecumulativeerrorandincludessurvey,transformationanddigitizingerrorsetc.

PositionaccuracyneednotberigorouslycomputedforZOCsB,CandDbutmaybeestimatedbasedontypeofequipment,calibrationregime,historicalaccuracyetc.
3Depthaccuracyofdepictedsoundings=a+(b*d)/100at95%CI(2.00sigma),whered=depthinmetresatthecriticaldepth.DepthaccuracyneednotberigorouslycomputedforZOCsB,
