Talent Show Outline:

Audition Organization:
Posters: PERFORMERS WANTED must also encourage non-traditional
acts (Doubledutch jumproping Extreme hulahooping Gymnastics Basketball
tricks Original monologues or poetry) and advertise the ideal performing
gexperience. Teachers welcome.
Limit: Minutes per performance depends on number of contestants.
Compliance form: A contract auditioners must sign stating they agree to
attend certain meetings and agree to cooperate with the Talent Show committee.
Judging: Members of panel state a simple yes or no. Majority rules.
Acts: Allow a few more acts than our limit allows, in case people cancel.
Example rules: Act may be no longer than __ minutes, all music must be
approved by the Student Council committee
Pre-Concert:
Concert Date: Day of concert cannot be in the same month of
Coffeehouse. We will not compete for an audience.
Email form: will be sent out for students via email to type out their names
correctly spelled, with official song they will be performing, costumes. etc. This
information will be used by the Playbill team to organize their written
introductions, order of performers, and type out the agenda in advance.
Participant Meetings: Participants will attend two meetings. One will be a
personal meeting, the other a public meeting. Both very crucial to the concert.
o Personal Meeting: Music teachers or volunteers will meet
with participants in advance to give them tips on how to improve their
performance. Basically insurance everything is perfect. Find a way to
organize a schedule for this, maybe during school day? Or an after school
day? Email students the schedule?
o Public Meeting: Email all students to notify them about this
meeting. Most important meeting; put all info on a handout incase people
dont show up for emergencies. also tell them to wear nice costumes.
Explain to them their personal meeting schedules. Let them know when
dress rehearsal is and ask them to bring CDs and be professional. Also
tell them about how everyone has to introduce each other with pre-written
prompts.Tell them they must invite lots of friends and family and explain to
them how crucial it is to have a full house, not only to enhance their talent
show experience and improve their performing skills, but for Free the
Children. Show them Free the Children video so they understand. Discuss
tips for performers: [PRACTICE Prior to the show, practice in front of family and
friends. Ask your audience for feedback, and adjust your performance
accordingly. PREPARE! Select your clothes and makeup, and then practice a
few times in full costume. PARTICIPATE in all rehearsals. Be PROFESSIONAL!
If you make a mistake during your performance, just keep going. Your audience
is less likely to notice a mistake if you act like nothing happened. PACE
YOURSELF! Make sure you move around the stage a bit, especially if youre
singing, and try to avoid making eye contact with audience.]

Dress Rehearsal: Rehearse the grand bow at the beginning of dress

rehearsal. Make sure to have the tech crew organized and ready, they must be
prompt and cooperative. Dress rehearsal will NOT last only 9 th period, it will take
time to organize and make sure everyones music is working and that their
lighting is okay. Plan out the entire dress rehearsal minute by minute.
Night of Concert:
Stage Fright: Organize a back-up plan in case someone gets stage fright.
Give everyone courage candy before the show to motivate them. If someone
freezes up on stage, give the performer a moment to gather their composure. If
they dont, communicate with tech crew to turn off the light and music, and get
someone on stage to excuse them from performing.
Introductions: Performers introduce each other on stage with a prompt
they will be given a week before the show. Prompt is written by the playbill
committee.
Backstage System: Where will performers wait on the night of the show
for their acts? NOT on side-stage. Back-up introducers in case anyone doesnt
show up, and to excuse anyone from stage fright. System of organization must
be met with the bouncers and the performers to make sure it all goes smoothly.
Bouncers: A team of two students and a teacher make sure the
backstage system is in order, and make sure everyone is near the stage when
their act is up. Also in charge of making sure students are ready to give
introductions. A TEACHER MUST BE BACKSTAGE to help bouncers maintain
order.
Tech Crew: Tech crew must be ready on the night of event. No one is
allowed to practice before the show, members of the audience sometimes arrive
early and the show should not be spoiled. Dress rehearsal is the day to practice
quickly on stage, not the night of the event. Performers should be 100% ready
and not even need practice.
Intermission: Sell refreshments and pizza, and forms to pre-order the
tape of the Talent Show. Roses for the performers.
Judging System: New judging system. We need impartial judges, and
students could be bias with scores. Teachers would be the best impartial judges,
and popular teachers would motivate more students to attend the show. There
should be a judging RUBRIC, with the crowds reaction as a main component.
Performers get a copy of the rubric and the crowd should be aware that their
reaction can affect the results.
Prizes: Give out some kind of participation prize to EVERYONE who
helped out (Tech crew, teachers, contestants). Perhaps trophies for the winners
in addition to the prize Student Government already has organized.
Recognition: Before the grand bow, credit the teachers, tech crew,
bouncers, talent show committee and everyone who helped out with the talent
show, give them a round of applause.
Grand Finale: All contestants come out on stage for a grand bow.
Bouncers must have them all ready for this.
Thank You: Write thank you notes to all teachers and committee who
helped.

Teacher Presence: Teacher opens up the show, excuses everyone for

intermission, and closes the show. This is so family members and parents feel a
parent-teacher-student presence and are reminded this was a school community
organized event. Invite teachers, principal and faculty to Talent Show
