Reflective Cover Letter
The purpose of this portfolio was to research a topic that is a currently a
community issue, and that represents our knowledge of the public issue. Our
portfolio is on Screen Addiction and the serious damage it can cause to people
emotionally, mentally, and to their health, especially children. The portfolio is
directed towards the professor along with parents, parents are the key audience as
their children are the ones that are more at risk to becoming a screen addict. It has
all the information we have gathered and the solutions we have found as a group.
Throughout the course of this project I have learned how to effectively write
multiple paper formats and have expanded my knowledge on what Screen Addiction
is and its impacts. I have also learned how effective it is to have information
references that are directly in the paper. For example on the Casual argument
assignment it was very important that we have the facts to support our stance on
the subject. Having the facts and being able explain how that supports your view, is
important in showing that you are creditable and knowledge about the point you are
making, in the Casual Argument this was done with in text citations.
The most effective paper in the portfolio is the Proposed Solution paper. The
other papers mostly explain the problem and its effects on society. The Proposed
Solution was different because it showed the solutions available, there is no point is

researching a problem if you are not going to find a solution. I felt like this was the
most challenging because it was in no way an argument, but we had to present a
solution we agreed was the best for the problem.
This semester I was introduced to multiple formats of paper and how each
one is effective in different ways. Following English 2010, I will apply these formats
that is most suitable for a topic Im writing, I feel like I will most benefit with science
classes. There will be multiple research papers and these formats have provided
great ways in which to structure the information that has been gathered. I was not
able to use these writing skills I learned in other classes because theyre computer
classes, but I am sure that I will use them as a reference in my following semesters.
This semester I gained a lot of knowledge and developed writing skills, these
are skills that I will more than likely use throughout my life. A great example is my
next resume, some jobs require cover letters for their resumes and now I know how
to effectively write one. I am currently working on my generals, but once I get
farther in my major and degree these skills will definitely become more useful.
Overall it was a very a great course and had a lot of knowledge to offer.
