Procedures
General Procedures
1. Beginning of period
a. Students are to be in their seat and ready to work when the bell rings. If
there is bell work, please begin working on it when you sit down.
b. Attendance will be taken while bell work is completed. Please be in your
seat so that attendance can be taken in an orderly fashion.
c. Tardiness: If you are tardy, present your pass from your previous class to
the teacher quietly, as to not disrupt the class. If you do not have a pass,
you will receive lunch detention. Repeated tardiness will have further
consequences.
d. Students are expected to work on bell work or student discussion time
quietly, or at a low voice as to not disrupt other students.
2. Out-of-Class Policy
a. Students can use BP (Behavior Points) or a bathroom pass to leave the
classroom for bathroom usage. Raise your hand and the teacher will
decide if it is an appropriate time to leave the room. Students need to sign
out up front. Please sign back in when you return. Only one student can
leave the classroom at a time. If you need a drink of water, you may raise
your hand, and the teacher will decide if it is an appropriate to leave the
classroom. If you left something in another teachers classroom, please
wait until the end of class to get it between classes.
3. Materials and Equipment
Many materials and equipment may be used throughout the year. Some will be
expected to be brought each day.
a. Bring your class notebook, paper, pencils, and any organization tools you
may normally bring with you to every class each day. Glue, scissors,
pencil sharpeners, ect will be provided by the teacher in the event they are
needed for the day. A calculator should not be needed for most of the work
in the class, but the teacher will inform you when you can use one.
b. Sharpen your pencil before class starts at the designated pencil
sharpening station. If you do not have your own pencil sharpener, please
raise your hand and ask to use it if it is an appropriate time in the class to
do so. If you prefer, mechanical pencils are allowed and welcome to

alleviate the need to use the pencil sharpener. Repeated pencil sharpener
trips may result in a mechanical pencil enforcement in the classroom.
c. All room equipment should be treated with respect and handled with care.
Do not touch lab equipment unless instructed to do so. Do not play with or
touch the eyewash station or lab shower unless there is an emergency
that requires it, as we will discuss in lab safety in the class. Messing with
lab equipment in an inappropriate manner will result in dire consequences.
If you need to use the class sinks, please raise your hand for the teacher
to allow you to. Do not dump trash into the sinks. Be respectful in this. If
you are seen throwing gum, paper trimmings, or anything else into the
sink, you will be required to stay after class and clean all of them. Paper
towels, tissues, and hand sanitizer will be provided for the class. Please
raise your hand and ask if you need to use any of them.
d. Students should not be behind the teachers desk unless asked to for a
specific purpose. Students should not use the class computers or tablets
unless given permission for a specific project, lab, or research purposes.
Storages areas are clearly labeled for less frequently used materials. Do
not mess with them unless instructed to by the teacher.
4. End of Period
a. At the end of the period, the teacher will instruct you to pack and get ready
to leave. The bell does not dismiss you. We will try to end class on time
each day, to give students and the teacher time to prepare for our next
classes, and clean up our work areas.
Seat-Work and Instruction Procedures
1. Student Attention
a. Students will pay attention to instructions, so that they do not need to be
repeated, and for the sake of safety.
b. If you are not paying attention, you will be asked to do so, or may be
docked participation points for the day.
2. Participation
a. Students will be given many opportunities to participate in activities,
answer questions, or other discussion activities. Students who participate
either aloud or in writing will receive a set amount of BP for participating in
the class discussion.

b. If you are not comfortable in participating in certain activities, we will work

to try and give you a way to participate so that you are not left out of the
discussion! Do not feel like your opinions or thoughts on a topic are silly.
There is no dumb question, and even when you may be wrong, it is an
opportunity to learn.
3. Seat-work procedures
a. Seat-work will be done solo, or with a shoulder buddy. When working
alone, please be quiet, and conduct the work at hand. When working with
a shoulder buddy, please keep discussions on topic, and keep your voice
down as to not distract other students. If there is a noticeable amount of
antsiness, we will move on.
b. If you or your shoulder buddy has a question, please raise your hand and
the teacher will get with you as soon as they can.
c. If you need to get out of your seat during seat-work, please raise your
hand, and the teacher will direct their attention to you as soon as they can
to allow you out of your seat.
d. If seat-work is a form of worksheet, please set your worksheet face down
on the desk. When all students are finished, pass up the sheets to the
front of the row, and the first person in the row may turn the papers into
the turn-in tray. If you are finished with your seat-work and it is in your
notebook or discussion, please wait for the rest of the class to finish.
4. Student Group Work
Many assignments within our class will be group-related and collaborative.
a. Groups will be given most supplies and materials needed for labs and
general group activities. Please return the supplies to their designated bin
for your lab table when you are finished using them, so that they are ready
for the next class to make use of.
b. Students will be assigned lab groups of 3-4 students. This lab group will
be your group for all group projects and labs throughout the year. If
problems arise within groups, students may be moved to a different group,
or reseated within their group.
c. The same rules apply to group work as they do to general class rules.
However, it is assumed that more discussion will occur between students.
Please keep the volume low, as to not distract other students, and keep
discussions on task when possible.

Miscellaneous
1. The teacher will have a timer that will go off 5 minutes before class ends,
designating that they will begin wrapping up the class. This does not mean for
students to immediately begin packing up. Homework or a quick recap of what
we discussed, or what we will discuss next class period will be given, and the
teacher will designate when to pack up to leave.
2. During interruptions from other students or teachers coming into the room, the
phone, or anything else should be treated respectfully. Please continue work if
you were in the middle of it, or remain quiet.
3. During fire drills, students need to follow teacher instructions for proper safety
procedures based on school instructions.
