5.4 Organization analysis

Symmetry and balance


Balance is achieved in this building to create a visual equilibrium. As shown in the diagram below,
the layout of Istana Budaya is simple and basic as it is symmetrical on the vertical axis.

Geometry
The shape of the building roof portrays the sirih junjung. It was constructed according to a roof
type called gable roof. The roof of Istana Budaya is a repetition of gable roof and it was
constructed using the folding method.

Hierarchy (Public to private)


The lobby is a public space and open to all the visitors. The auditorium is a semi private space; it
is opened when there is an event. The stage and rehearsal hall is a private space as it is only
opened to those who are authorized.
