    The annular and cruciate pulleys are areas of thickened tissue in the finger tendon sheath that are important for normal finger movement and function. Named for their pulley-like function, the 5 annular and 4 cruciform pulleys in each finger (except the thumb, which has 2 annular and 1 cruciform pulley) allow the flexor muscles to efficiently move the fingers and keep the tendons positioned correctly against the finger bones.
