3. Marine Solutions
The Wrtsil Marine Solutions business in Indonesia began in July 2013. The rapid development of
Indonesia has been followed by the growing demand for power and energy resources. As an archipelago
country, sea transportation would be one of the key modes of distribution.
Currently, government policy has put the utilization of LNG amongst its top priorities, benefitting
Wrtsil and its expertise.
The worlds first ever carrier vessel for compressed natural gas (CNG) is to be powered by an integrated
Wrtsil propulsion system, chosen for its energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. The vessel
is being built at the Jiangsu Hantong shipyard in China ordered by CMIC ENRIC for customer Perusahaan
Listrik Negara (PLN), the Indonesian state owned energy company. The order with Wrtsil was placed
in November 2014. This CNG carrier will be a model for other Indonesian owners as the governments
policy is to promote energy efficient and cleaner sea transportation through the use of gas fuelled
engines.
Wrtsils main objective in the LNG sector would be in the development of LNG carriers for Pertamina,
an Indonesian state-owned oil and natural gas corporation, as well as for regasification units, and small
LNG carriers for domestic distribution. In other segments, PSVs, bulk carriers and Ro-Pax vessels are also
in the focus list, as these are areas that have been specifically earmarked for development by the
Indonesian government.
The high level policy from the government, which is planning to import 500 vessels from China and
establish 100 new shipyards by 2019, present Wrtsil with market-building opportunities.
