Grade 1 Math

Skip Counting & More, Less, and

Equal

Unit Plan

January-February 2016

Miss Pratt

Date and Unit Duration: January 9- 26, 12 classes, 40 minutes each

Rationale: For this unit, the students will have 40 minutes of a
lesson/instruction time and for the remainder of the class, will
complete math stations with my teacher mentor. My teacher mentor is
creating the math stations and I will be teaching the lessons. The
math stations give the students another opportunity to practice their
math skills, and another way for us to assess them. For the
lesson/instruction time, I chose to have the students work on a booklet
that has cut and paste activities, and other activities to help them
practice their skip counting skills. Im beginning each lesson with a
song and having the entire class skip counting together, because this
will engage the students and the music will help them to remember.
The students will complete an exit slip after each lesson to
demonstrate their understanding of the concepts taught. I used TPT
and the Maximizing Math 1 teaching resource primarily for this unit, as
well as a variety of counting videos on YouTube.

Outcomes
Number: Develop Number Sense.
Patterns and Relations (Variables & Equations): Represent
algebraic expressions in multiple ways.

-Make equal, less, and more sets
-Use an equal sign

Counting:
1. Say the number sequence 0-100 by:
- 1s forward between any two given numbers
- 5s and 10s forward from 0 to 100
