Learning Objective 5.4 The student will create and solve single-
step and multistep practical problems
involving addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division with and
without remainders of whole numbers.
Pedagogy
Activity In this activity the students will use Google
Classroom to participate in the lesson that has
been designed by the teacher. The lesson plan
will reflect the goals set forth in 5.4 from the
Virginia SOL. The teacher will give a tutorial
about using Google Classroom, and after the
class has been created they will be asked to
respond to a question using the app. Next they
will delve into the lesson individually, with the
support of the teacher.

Technology Google Classroom
The Google Class app is free for anyone with a
Google Apps for Education Account. This can
be easily set up through ITunes.

After the lesson on 5.4, the students will be
given a second tutorial concerning Khan
Academy. They will learn that with Khan
Academy comes a 24/7 Math tutor. Next they
will learn about missions and how they will be
rewarded for completing these. Using Khan
Academy, they will be divided up into mixed
ability peer groups so that peer tutoring may take
place. The teacher will guide them through the
missions each group is to accomplish.
