A classroom must be a community of learners who respect each other and

each other's learning.
Building a community in the classroom should be the first priority of the year in
order to encourage a successful learning environment for the year. It is established
with a strong relationship with each student, valuing each students strengths and
recognizing the uniqueness every student brings to the classroom. There should be
strong, trusting relationships between students and between teachers and students.
Students should know they will learn in a comfortable and safe environment.
Learning about students as individuals helps build these relationships and the
classroom as a learning community.

Reflection is key to improving teaching practices and understanding

students and their learning.
Constant Reflection on lessons, teaching practices and strategies, and management
norms are necessary for continual improvement in classroom learning. It is
important to reflect on all aspects of a lesson taught in order to think about what
students learned about the content and about how their they learn. Teachers should
always be changing and improving lessons and teaching practices. The knowledge
gained from reflection on lessons can be valuable not only for similar lessons, but
for overarching teaching methods.

Differentiating in the classroom allows students to learn their best.

Differentiating lets every student feel like a valued learner in the classroom. It
provides students with the resources they need to succeed with their specific and
unique set of skills. Recognizing and understanding the different levels in your
classroom shows where students are and what they need to reach the next step in
the education. Differentiating can be done by assessing and noticing individual
students.
