Professional Development
All staff has the opportunity to participate in online, in-
school and outside IB workshops every school year. (see
PYP Qualifications chart)
All teachers are registered and have access to the IB OCC.

Karen Crooke Principal (IB world community member)


Leads a session for IB on PYP with the MYP Coordinator
from Oprah Winfrey School (MYP) and the Principal from
the United World College in Swaziland (DP) - in Cape
Town.
Provides workshops across the continent for the IB as a workshop leader.

Purpose:
1. Provide students with opportunities to get to know one another across distances, with the
intention of eventually discussing and comparing exhibition-related topics.
2. Gather video evidence of student collaboration and student action with the intent to create
video compilations of these video clips.

Previous Grade2 teacher Wanita Woithe

Participated in an exchange of student experiences for a project with Brian Costello, from the
Weymouth Township School in Dorothy New
Jersey, in the United States and Angela Langland,
from the American International school in
Johannesburg. The aim was to identify the
similarities and differences between themselves and
people in communities within a larger world by
developing geography concepts and map skills using
Google Earth and adding a new destination to a Tour
builder with Google tour.

They used Google forms for questions and answers.

ISSEA

The primary school students are invited to join the presentations of secondary school ISSEA
events organized at AISM, such as Swimming, Band and Choir and Tennis, coordinated by Lee
Clagnaz, AISM Activities Director, which offers an opportunity to connect to other IB schools.

Social Media
Teachers involved in Facebook groups such as PYP in the Early Years and the importance of play,
PYP X-Change, PYP Teachers Lets share some ideas, PYP Online Collaboration. Others in IB PYP
Educators groups on LinkedIn.
