DOLE GIVES JOY TO 125 CHILD WORKERS IN BATU, SIAY

Batu, Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay:
On December 22, 2015 the Department of Labor
and Employment in partnership with LGU-Siay,
BLGU-Batu, GC-Net Sibugay and Don Jose
Catering spent a meaningful day with 125 children
who were identified as child workers engaged in
lemon picking. To stir hope and positivity among
the child workers, the technical working group
hosted a Christmas event for the child workers wherein a popular fast food chain was invited to
entertain the children. The event was dubbed as PAMASKONG HANDOG PARA SA MGA
BATANG MANGGAGAWA SA BARANGAY BATU, SIAY, ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY.
Christmas gift items were also given to the children.

The Christmas event was graced by no less than the

DOLE Regional Director, Sisinio B. Cano. In his message RD
Cano encouraged the children to follow their dreams and pursue
education to break the cycle of poverty. He also reminded the
parents to nurture their children and support their dreams. RD
Cano also expressed his gratitude to LGU-Siay and Don Jose
Catering for constantly collaborating with DOLE on child labor
programs which made the implementation easier and successful.

After taking their snacks the child workers

got very excited by the dance presentation of the
Jollibee mascot and the parlor games. The
children cheer loudly with each game and took
turns to have a picture taken with the mascot.

The DOLE hopes that this gift-giving

activity will create ripple of effects that will
change the mindset of people in the communities to eliminate child labor activities and create
an environment that encourages children to enjoy their childhood and to follow their dreams.
