in charged with this tender preparation. With his comprehensive and laughably explanation,
I have my first glance in the other side engineering field. There are a bundle of terms and
condition that have to be considered and this is a part of knowledge that have in the mind of
project engineers.
The projects that I involved were mainly to prepare a tender proposal. There were a
few procedures that we need to follow before completing a tender. These are the three
important steps that need to go through before submitting a tender :-

2.2.2.1 Introduction
In essence, the solution is very simple: The L2 Gigabit Network Switch is connected
to the router in each of Jabatan Perhilitan branches in each state. This will provide Jabatan
Perhilitan with more usable ports on the Local Area Network. On the current network
layout in the most of the sites the hosts are connected directly to the router whereby the
router supports a limited number of Local Area Network ports. Adding a L2 Gigabit
Network switch to the network for its Local Area Network Expansion will provide Jabatan
Perhilitan with more usable ports in the Local Area Network whereby it is able to cater for
its future growth in the network.
2.2.2.2 Proposed Network Diagram for Sites with 2 units 8000GS/24
The 8000GS/24 supports VLAN tagging with up to 256 active LANs where
the switch supports Ports-based VLANs and MAC based VLANs. For added security the
switch supports Private VLAN whereby communication between ports in the same VLANs
are isolated and communication of these ports is only forwarded to the uplink ports. To
ensure additional protection in the network the switch is able to control access in the
network with protocols is such as IEEE 802.1x port-based authentication which only allows
known users to connect to the network. Unknown users who physically connect can be
isolated to a guest VLAN to protect the private network data. Access Control Lists can be
configured. To filter traffic coming in or out the switch.
For ease of management, the switch supports SNMP v1, v2 and v3 protocol
whereby it can send SNMP and SYSLOG to the remote Network Monitoring Server or
Syslog Server.

2.2.2.5 Summary
The proposal outlines a L2 Gigabit Network Switch whereby the solution for
Jabatan Perhilitan is to expand their current Local Area Network which is connected to a
router. The proposed L2 switch at each site in Jabatan Perhilitan will provide each branch
additional usable ports at each site for their Local Area Network expansion. The proposed
managed L2 Gigabit Switch 8000GS/24 will provide Jabatan Perhilitan with a cost-
effective solution where it is scalable to Jabatan Perhilitan future growth in the network.

2.2.3.1 Introduction
CMC Engineering Sdn Bhd and General Dynamics SATCOM Technology are
pleased to present this preliminary proposal for a Troposcatter Communication Link for
the Telekom Malaysia (TM) project (Miri to Bario). CMC Engineering Sdn Bhd and
General Dynamics SATCOM Technology is turnkey provider of products, services, full
communication systems and networks for use in satellite communications and also the
Troposcatter applications. Most of our communication systems and networks are installed
in government and commercial systems worldwide.
The proposed system concept is based upon the SATCOM Technologies TM-20
Troposcatter Modem, which offers the best available performance in data rate, diversity
processing and Bit Error Rate. Complementing the TM-20 Modems have developed a
system concept utilizing Commercial, Off-The-Shelf equipment and maximum discrete
component redundancy , thereby maximizing flexibility, reliability and maintainability.
2.2.3.2 Solution Overview
The phenomenon has been used to build communication links in a number of parts
of the world. Large billboard antennas focus a high power radio beam at troposphere. It is
a mid-way between the transmitter and receiver. A certain proportion of the signal is
refracted and received at similar antenna at the receiving station.

Figure IX presents the proposed terminal block diagram for the Troposcatter link.
As noted previously, maximum use has been made of COTS equipment, with automatic
redundancy at the logical component level. The system is configured as Quad diversity
protected configuration (1:1). Our approach has incorporated 1:5 redundant converter sets
for each pair of TX and RX signal paths. Whilst this approach does add some additional
cost over single thread converter sets, it seems logical to incorporate redundancy here, just
as with the Modems and SSPAs.
This approach is robust and clean; maximizing system reliability and serviceability,
with readily available standard product components. The proposed system makes use of
1:2 SSPA sub-systems with integral switching networks providing automatic switchover in
case of a failed on-line SSPA, as well as manual signal routing to facilitate servicing.
Interfaces to the SSPA assemblies will be compatible with the existing terminal hardware.
Redundant TM-20 Troposcatter Modems are provided by way of two fully complete
stand-alone units combined with a Redundancy Control Switch. As described above, this
approach provides maximum dependability and serviceability, as there are no shared
functions between the two modems and individual units can be easily removed for servicing
or replaced by a spare unit. Each modem contains its own power supply and Rubidium
frequency standard. It should be noted that the TM-20 is constructed using the latest FPGA
technology and as such, has a relatively low parts count. As a result, the calculated MTBF
figure is in excess of 200,000 hours and the modem is even less likely to fail than other
system elements. Thus, a reasonable approach to a reduced cost solution would be to utilize
single thread modems rather than 1:1 redundant modems.
The TM-20 modems are proposed with an EIA-530 interface. If a G.703 interface is
desired, conversion between G.703 and EIA-530 is readily accomplished by way of an off-
the-shelf data converter. A Voice Order Wire handset is provided for voice communications
between the terminals and in the redundant modem configuration, switching of the VOW
interface is handled seamlessly in the Redundancy Control Switch. In addition to the VOW
channel, an asynchronous overhead service channel is provided, which also doubles as the
communication link for the Adaptive Power Control function, with the APC data embedded
in the asynchronous channel framing structure.
The TM-20 has an optional IP interface (plug-in) module which really opens up
much more versatile and powerful connectivity through the link. For example, the VOW
function could be easily handled by VOIP phone sets. Also, any number of different IP
devices could be connected to provide virtually any type of transmission from voice to
email to real-time video. The inclusion of IP interface modules for the TM-20s and the
addition of IP routers are expected to be achievable for reasonable cost in relation for a
dramatic expansion of capability and therefore offered for consideration. A General
Dynamics VertexRSI NetMAC Monitor & Control System is included, with Front End
Processors and terminals at each end of the link.In addition, the NetMAC offers powerful
data logging and report generation capability to provide historical information on link
operation. As is typical for M&C system implementation, the NetMAC will be custom
configured for this application in order to best meet the customer requirements.
2.2.2.3.8 Summary
During involved in this tender, I had learned about all the scope work. As a
complete Tender are included, all information above but for link budget analysis,
equipment & services lists, list of spares, Programme services, delivery and complete data
sheet are not enclosed because that information are Private and Confidential (P&C)
2.3 Product Presentation
Their corporate clients include such name as Phillips, Esso, Petronas, Telekom
Nasional Berhad, Maxis, APV Production House, MRT Singapore, RTM, Astro and leading
bank as well Turf Club.
The 'basic' FibreFlow tube assembly has a wrap of soft temper aluminium as a
water barrier. It is soft temper so that under moderate stretching, it will not fracture. The
outer surface of the aluminium is adhesive covered, to bond it to the inside of the sheath.
The sheath is MDPE, 1.6mm nom thick, has good flexibility and moderate
toughness, such that it is ideal for use installed inside a pre-installed duct or subduct. Thus
we have a product with low weight, great flexibility, and low cost. It is in effect, an empty
fiber optic cable.
One advantage is that this product can be installed easily using standard cable
practice, with very low installation force (these lengths can often be pulled in place by
hand, ideal for low-tech countries) and there is no tensile risk to fibers, since they are
installed later.
EZ blow Fiber units can be blown into EZ Blow micro tubes for out-door
and in-door network including riser and small diameter bend route.
Future proof and cost effective network by just-in-time fiber deployment.
Flexible network design and easy customer connection by extremely flexible
tube pathway.
Quick repair and easy upgrade by simple blowing.
Reduced splicing and connecting by long installation distance and various
deployment options. (Up to 6km installation without splicing or connecting
is achievable)

CHAPTER 3
3.1 Discussion
During completing tender process, I faced a lot of obstacles such as compiling the
render documents as the tender requirement, need to submit before the dateline and must
compile and meet standard in company quality manual. More over, I also must cope with
the working environment which is totally different with college study life. Besides that, I
also have to face and dealing with lots of people characteristics.
3.2 Recommendations
I dont have a recommendation for the host company but a few recommendations
for UniMAP. They are :
1) All schools must upload lists of student when exactly date for the
presentation since not all students having their internship in or near Perlis.
2) For Diploma students, UniMAP should search for suitable place to undergo
their internship since some of the students did not assign to do proper work
as the InTra requirements.
3) CIC should update quickly the exact report format at least one week before
the last date for internship, easy for all students to compile their report
before the presentation date.
4) Fees for Diploma students should include the fee for college residence so
that it wont burden students to pay when they come back to UniMAP for
presentation.
CHAPTER 4
CONCLUSION
As a conclusion, the objectives of this industry training were achieved. I was exposed to
practical skill, teamwork, communication skill and many others. Beside, I knew the
characteristic and behavior of worker in a company and I learned how to manage and speak
with them. They are always following the procedure as stated in ISO 9001:2000
Certification Quality Manual. Besides that CMCE is a company that care in the Quality
Management System and teamwork are the strength of this company. Overall, I can
conclude that, CMCE taught me lots of knowledge, not just for technical skills but also soft
skills such as dealing with vendor, increases my confidence to speak in english and build
teamwork spirit. More over, CMCE also taught me an entrepreneurship skill. Lat but not
list, CMCE is a very suitable place to gained lots of knowledge in telecommunication,
transportation, technology, oil and gas and also petrochemical industry.
