Long, long ago, in a dense forest there were thousands of tall and beautiful trees. They
were happy, but proud of themselves. Among them there also an ugly tree whose branches
were badly twisted. Its roots had uneven curves. All the trees made fun of that ugly tree.

How are you, hunchback?" the other trees always shouted and their laughter made the
ugly tree feel sad. But, he never raised a voice against them. The ugly tree thought, I wish
I were as beautiful as the other trees. Why did God do this to me? Neither can I provide
shade to the travelers not can the birds make their nests on me. Nobody needs me."
One day, a woodcutter came to the forest. He took a look at the trees and said, These
trees are lovely. I must cut them." As soon as he picked up his axe the trees became
frightened.

Chop, Chop, Chop went the woodcutters axe and one by one the trees started to fall.
None of us is going to be spared," screamed one of the beautiful trees. Soon that tree too
was brought to ground by the woodcutters axe.

By now, the woodcutter had come near to the ugly tree. He had just raised his axe when
suddenly he noticed how crooked the ugly tree was. Hmm! This crooked tree seems to be
useless for me. I cannot make long straight logs of this ugly tree," he thought. And he
moved towards another beautiful tree. The ugly tree heaved a huge sigh of relief. He
realized that by making him ugly, God had actually given him a boon.

From that day the ugly tree never complained. He was happy with his crooked branches. He
never forgot how he was spared from the woodcutters axe, only because he was crooked
and ugly.

The Story:

A young girl from Heryot Friends School dreams to become a singer and don't want to be a
secretary to his professor father. Though most of the time Laura Haverard, a close relative make
fun of her thoughts. Also her other relatives always tell her that theres no benefit in singing.

When his father got ill he brought him to the French town of Rosayac. While dining in a cafe,
she was invited to sing and Kit graced the stage and sings few songs which amuse the happy
listeners. Returning to England finally Kit was so happy to permit by his father study singing.

At London, she was hired as typist stenographer and after office hours she finds time to have a
singing lesson to voice master Papa Andreas. Kit friend Laurence Cray and co-singer Terry
Chauntesinger encouraged her to pursue her studies. She also got acquainted with Felix, an
amateur singer who looks her a lot but he is just a friend to her. Laurence encourage her to sing
few songs at Lady Hilbery-Wapentake home and after most audience greeted her tenderly. After
then, she was offered to sing at the Silverbridge Chamber Concert Society that again mesmerized
the heart of the audiences.

And not so soon, the well-known Cuthbert Hilliard of Seahaven Pavillon offered her to be part of
symphony concerts. After singing "The Hill of the Lord" at the Heryot Festival, her singing
career got brilliant. Sad news came, Laurence died in India, it makes her cry and sad. But all
wounds heal, she then gave her heart to the one who encourage her in singing, Terry
Chauntesinger.

Long ago,in Mount Makiling,there lived a beautiful goddess name Mariang Makiling.
She is beautiful,kindhearted and loving. She had a long shiny black hair and she often
wear black pearls and gold jewelry. She often shows off herself to people living at the
foot of the mountain as a human. Many times,people would climb up to the mountain
and pick some fruits but when they came down,fruits changed into gold. People
thanked her for it.

But one day,some people robbed her jewelry. Some hunters climb up the mountain
and hunted for wild animals,cut down trees and left the forest at the top of the
mountain denuded. At that time,one of those hunters is a mortal which Mariang
Makiling fell in love with. She discovered that that hunter already have a mortal as his
wife. After those things happened,Mariang Makiling was very angry that it thundered
and rained hard that night and her voice was heard by all people leaving at the foot
of the mountain saying "I have provided you food,treasures and shelter but it wasn't
enough for you!I have given you everything you want but still you aren't contented. I
loved you more than myself but still you searched for mortal love. Now,feel my anger!
And wait for my revenge! From now on,you shall stand on your own feet and you will
never see me again. I swear!" And she laughed so hard that it brought an earthquake.

After her large voice was heard, she never showed herself again to those mortals who
abused her kindness. Today,it is still believed that MAriang Makiling is still living
there.

WHAT DOES THE MYTH EXPLAIN?
We think that the Legend of Maria Makiling is such a great story and gives great
lessons. First of all,the story shows that no mountain is to high to reach if the one
you love is right there waiting for you.Second is that love doesn't base on
apperance,power and wealth because love is only present for those who accept
each other for who they are,not for what they have.

The Legend was narrated in a very understandful way.
First is because each scene was stated in a complete detailed manner. Second is
because the plot of the storry is not cunfusing and complicated.Third is the moral
of the storry which can be easily seen,but states a very good lessons that we can
also apply to our life. Fourth is the characters which have different personalities
and status in life and still they were connected in a very nice way. Over all, We
think that the story has a perfect theme,plot,setting and characters.
