"Like I always say, everybody has a chance. But I think, out of everyone, Maxine will have the
least," she told radio hosts Ogie Diaz and MJ Felipe, "But of course there can be an exception.
There can be one exception and I hope this is the exception. People don't understand that it's
very rare (for a host country's candidate to win)."

"I'll be rooting for Maxine, people don't realize that," Diaz reiterated when asked if she will be
watching the coronation day on Monday.

The beauty queen also remained in a joking mood when prodded for her message to her critics.
"Sige na nga, I was just joking. Actually, Maxine is the one talaga who is going to win. Oh, OK
na ba sila? Bakit? Si (President Rodrigo) Duterte nga nagbabago ang isip, eh 'di ako rin."

miss-universe (Jan. 27, 2017)

For the first time ever, a Philippine candidate will be accompanied by an interpreter at the Miss
Universe pageant.
But Maxine Medina is still unsure about whether she will answer the question in English or
Filipino.
"Siguro masasabi natin on that moment because I consider an interpreter beside me pero it's up
to me if I can speak in English or can speak in Tagalog," she said in an interview by Mariz
Umali.
Medina has been the subject of some bashing by fans because of her English and
communications skills. But she has drawn the support of fellow beauty queens, who have
said there's nothing wrong with using an interpreter for the contest.

DOT Secretary Wanda Corazon Teo wants an interpreter for Maxine Medina

This is the first time I will meet Maxine and the first thing I will tell her is to get an interpreter if
she feels that she can better express her thoughts using our vernacular language, Diaz was
quoted in a social media post by PTV on Tuesday.

intellect, and self-worth. #GoMarsMaxine Marian Rivera-Dantes (@superstarmarian)

"Errors are normal. Even first language speakers of English commit mistakes, too. At the end of
the day, it's just a beauty contest. Maxine will still be beautiful. She'll still be designing interiors.
She has a beautiful life ahead. How about you? Mark Arthur Payumo Abalos, Maxines trainer,
wrote.

"The terno was actually invented by our former first lady, Imelda Marcos. She invented these
butterfly sleeves and they use it [to] cover their face," Medina said. - See more at:

"It was a mistake. It wasnt done intentionallyshe honestly didnt know. Are we really going to
put our girl down because of a statement like that? At least, now we know. If it wasnt pointed
out, it wouldnt have been corrected. Hindi naman niya alam," Wurtzbach said.

She shared how she prepares for the pageant, especially the Q&A. Pinky then asked how
prepares for something like that. Maxine answered, "Honesty, everyday, I always read the
newspaper."
The interview took a turn when Pinky began asking questions posted by viewers on Twitter. The
first question is, "which Philippine city or tourist spot you would like to show to fellow Miss U
candidates?"
Maxine strongly recommended El Nido in Palawan, then she shared her vacation in the island,
"That time, I was kayaking with my friend, and then we went go...uhm...island to another. It was
five islands".
