RJ900 and RJ900X print heads have used water based print heads since inception of the printer. Due to new
and evolving ink technology, new RJ900X printers will now ship with a more robust solvent/water based print
heads. The change is designed to make the printer more versatile and reliable.
All new production RJ900X printers beginning with SN# HB4A000966 will have the solvent/water based heads
installed PN# DF-49684. All older units using PN# DG-44246 water based print heads are still 100% usable
and supported.
Water based and the now available solvent/water based print heads, while identical in appearance and
functionality, were not interchangeable due to the head ranks associated with each to determine proper jetting
frequency for differing ink viscosities.
Therefore, to standardize field placements and reduce parts ordering confusion, Mutoh has also created new
firmware that will allow printers prior to HB4A000966 to use either print head. See below for proper firmware
revisions to support your printer/model.
It is not necessary to change over to the new solvent/water based head for current field units with water based
heads and no action is required. However, anyone wishing to install solvent based heads at the end of current
print head life will need to ensure current firmware is loaded prior to change out.
If you have questions or concerns please contact your sales manager or the Mutoh customer care department.
