Vitamin B1
What is it?
Thiamine is a vitamin, also called vitamin B1. Vitamin B1 is found in
many foods like yeast, cereal grains, beans, walnuts and meat. It is
often used in combination with other B vitamins and is found in many
vitamin B complex products. The vitamin B complex usually includes
vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B3 (niacin /
niacinamide), Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine),
vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) and folic acid. However, some products
do not contain all of these ingredients and some may include others,
such as biotin, para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), choline bitartrate and
inositol.
People take thiamine for diseases caused by a low level of thiamine
(thiamine deficiency syndromes), including beriberi and inflammation of
the nerves that are outside the brain (peripheral neuritis). This disease
is associated with pregnancy or with a vitamin deficiency disease called
pellagra.
Thiamine is also used for digestive problems, including lack of appetite,
ulcerative colitis and chronic diarrhea.
Thiamine is also used for AIDS and to strengthen the immune system,
for diabetic pain, heart disease, alcoholism, aging, for a type of brain
damage called cerebellar syndrome, for mouth ulcers, vision problems
Such as cataracts and glaucoma, for motion sickness and to improve
sports performance. It is also used for the prevention of cervical cancer
and to prevent the progression of kidney disease in patients with type 2
diabetes.
Some people use thiamine to maintain a positive mental attitude; To
increase learning capacity; To increase energy; To fight against stress;
And to prevent memory loss, including Alzheimer's disease.
Health care providers give thiamine injections for a memory disorder
called Wernicke's encephalopathy syndrome, for other thiamine
deficiency syndromes in critically ill patients, for alcohol withdrawal and
for coma.
How effective is it?
Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database classifies efficacy, based
on scientific evidence, according to the following scale: Effective,
Probably Effective, Possibly Effective, Possibly Ineffective, Probably
Ineffective, Ineffective, and Insufficient Evidence for Make a
determination.
The effectiveness rating for this product is as follows:
Effective for...
Metabolic disorders. Intake of thiamine helps to correct the
metabolic disorders associated with genetic diseases, including
Leigh's disease, urine disease with maple syrup scent, among
others.
Lack of thiamine. Thiamine intake helps prevent and treat
magnesium deficiency.
Cerebral disorder due to lack of thiamine (Wernicke-Korsakoff
syndrome). Thiamine helps to decrease the risk and symptoms of a
brain disorder called Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome (WKS) that is
related to low levels of thiamine (thiamine deficiency) and is often
seen in alcoholics. It is believed that between 30% and 80% of
alcoholics are thiamine deficient. Taking thiamine injections seems
to help decrease the risk of developing WKS and decreasing WKS
symptoms during alcohol withdrawal.
Possibly effective for...
Waterfalls. Intake of thiamine as part of a diet that is associated with
a decreased risk of developing cataracts.
Prevention of kidney disease in people with type 2 diabetes.
Preliminary research shows that taking high doses of thiamine (100
mg three times a day) for three months significantly decreases the
amount of albumin in the urine in the People with type 2 diabetes.
Albumin in the urine is an indicator of kidney damage.
Painful menstruation (Dysmenorrhea). Preliminary research
suggests that 90-day thiamine intake stops the pain associated with
menstruation in women aged 12-21 years.
Possibly ineffective for...
Mosquito repellent. Some research shows that consumption of B
vitamins, including thiamine, does not help repel mosquitoes.
Insufficient evidence to make a determination to...
Athletic performance. Some research suggests that ingestion of
thiamine together with pantethine and pantethine acid (vitamin B5)
does not improve muscle strength or endurance in athletes.
Prevention of cervical cancer. Some research suggests that
increased consumption of riboflavin in diet and supplements, along
with folic acid, riboflavin and vitamin B12, may decrease risk
2.1. Brainstorm a list of personal travel experiences with your friends (5)
2.1.1. Nothing better than going to the museum on those rainy days! When
the day is sunny the last thing you want to do is go to a museum, so
the best time is to go when it rains, it is an activity that will take you
several hours and keep you entertained, even to go with kids.
2.1.2. Going to the mall is a great idea, you always have to bring some gift
to return from the holidays, why not take advantage of rainy days? In
addition there are usually activities for the whole family, while you
have coffee, your children can play in a playground.
2.1.3. Ufff this is my favorite, there is nothing better than going to the
movies on a rainy day and if that accompanies you with a dinner may
be the perfect plan.
2.1.4. If you were not careful and did not take any books, this plan can be
accompanied by a visit to the bookstore and a coffee shop, the
equation would be: a good coffee + a good book + rain = perfect plan
to spend the afternoon.
2.1.5. Whether on a family holiday, with a couple or with a friend, the board
game is a good option to spend an afternoon, a good game of TEG,
Basket, Race of mind, Monopoly or whatever your preference will
make you spend a while Very nice, and if you do not have any board
games, you can install one on your tablet.
Even a Questioned game, using only their phones, can mean several
hours of fun.
I remember that I was 6 years old and my house was very small because
my parents had just bought it, I remember well that day when one of my
uncles came to my house with a gift for me, which I liked a lot, it was my
first car Of collection that I had of gray color, is a mustang GT500, that
gift I still keep it because to me I like the cars a lot and thanks to that gift
I now have a large collection of cars on a shelf in my room, I remember
that day my Uncle came to my house to say goodbye because the next
month he went to the United States, and now I only have contact with him
through the chat and I hope he will soon return.
When at some point I have regressed in time, I could not help feeling a
certain air of nostalgia, remembering the people who are no longer here,
although I have to recognize that one of the happiest stages of my life
has been my Childhood, because there were no responsibilities, no
worries, no burdens, no rush, and time seemed to go slower than now.
The stage of my childhood was very endearing, warm, surrounded by the
affection and protection of my family, and the game reigned in my infantile
world, I remember that I loved to make reality the stories that told me the
majors or those that I read, From there to the princesses to give them life
in me, disguising me in long nightgowns that my mother left me, and I
saw myself reflected as a princess, in this way, made my favorite stories
come true.
Hello. I was in Jaen four years ago and I would not know where to start.
It was twenty days well used, from Chepn to Jaen in the north, going
down in 4x4 to the capital and four days in a Bagua located on the east
coast of the isthmus.
Everything is amazing its people, the landscape monuments, the night
march we go a place to never leave. A journey that I will never forget in
life because I do not think I can do it ever again. Another place I would
like to visit Jaen would be.
We went to the adventure without knowing very well where we were going
to sleep every night but we usually ended up in guest house that there
are everywhere. In Bagua in hotel directly. We were left with the desire
to cross the border with the jungle in a lightning trip depart See the
temples but everyone told us to take the idea of the head and change it
for the four days in the jungle (to freak out, we cannot get an idea of the
march that was there).
3.2. Make a list of suggestions related to the possible problems you might face
in this situation.
What is the problem? It can be many things. Our instinct tells us when
there is a problem, even if we can translate it into words or not. Maybe
we feel uncomfortable in a certain place, but you do not know exactly
why. A problem may simply be the feeling that something is wrong and
that it must be corrected. We might feel some sense of affliction or
injustice.
Put simply, a problem is the difference between what is and what could
or should be. "No child should go to bed hungry, but this happens to a
quarter of all children in the country" is a clear and strong statement about
a problem. Another example may be, "Communication in our office is not
very clear." In this example, the explanation of what "could or should be"
is simply alluded to.
As these problems illustrate, some are more serious than others; The
problem of child hunger in children is a much more severe problem than
the fact that the new youth center lacks physical exercise equipment,
although both are problems that can and should be addressed.
Generally, problems affecting groups of people - children, adolescent
mothers, the mentally ill, the poor - can at least be addressed and in many
cases diminished using the process outlined in this chapter.
Although the organization may have decided to address a seemingly
insurmountable problem, the process that will be used to solve it is not
complex. This, however, takes time, both to formulate it and to analyze it
completely. Most people underestimate the work they need to do and the
time they need to spend on it. However, this is the cornerstone, the
foundation with which to propose effective solutions. This is not the time
to take shortcuts.
Three basic concepts form the core of this chapter: clarifying, deciding
and analyzing. Let's look at each one in due time.
Solving problems is one of the most challenging aspects of working
effectively with a group. It is also one of the most rewarding. By working
together, groups can overcome obstacles that individuals have found
insurmountable. As Margaret Mead reminds us, "There is no doubt that
a small group of thoughtful and committed citizens can change the world,
in fact, it is the only thing that has succeeded."
