Associated Learning Standard(s): The resource may be generally applicable, if so, simply state that. List any ISTE-S standards that
seem to naturally align with the selected resource.
Concept 3: PO2: Describe the environmental effects of the following natural and/or human-caused hazards: flooding, drought,
earthquakes, fires, pollution, and extreme weather.
Digital Citizen: 2c: Students demonstrate an understanding of and respect for the rights and obligations using and sharing
intellectual property
Knowledge Constructor 3a: Students plan and employ effective research strategies to locate information and other recourses for
their intellectual creative pursuits
Knowledge Constructor 3c: Students curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to create
collections of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions
Knowledge Constructor 3d: Students build knowledge by actively exploring real-world issues and problems, developing ideas and
theories and pursuing answers and solutions

RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
Give a brief description of the technology/resource.

Pear Deck is a presentation tool that allows students to pull up the presentation on their own screens and a projector. It is similar
to the set of up Power Point where there are slides, however students log into Pear Deck and are given a code by the presenter.
The presentation will appear on their individual IPads, phones, computers, (whatever they logged in with). The presenter can then
start the presentation and allow students to either do student time, where students can go through the presentation at their
own pace, or presenter can control the pace of the slides through their device. In addition, the presenter can input questions
throughout their slides to check for understanding or receive feedback. The questions can be in the form true/false, multiple
choice, short response, or like/dislike. The presenter can then choose to show the responses for all to see or can save the
responses for personal reflection after the presentation is complete. In addition, the slides do not have to be made directly in
Pear Deck, if PowerPoint, Google-slides, etc. was used, it is possible to convert it into Pear Deck by simply dropping the file in or
uploading it into Pear Deck. Finally Pear Deck, like most presentation technology tools, allows for pictures and videos to be
uploaded as well.

INTEGRATION IDEA - PRESENTATION

How might you use this resource in a lesson plan to promote students presentation/speaking/communication skills?

For presentation I have come up with the idea that students will form a group of three and create a presentation through Pear
Deck on the assigned environmental hazards and its environmental effects. The groups will either be given flooding, drought,
earthquakes, fires, pollution, or extreme weather. The requirements will include that they state if the hazard is natural, human-
caused, or both. They will give three real life examples that are either occurring currently or have occurred in the last three years
around the world. They will have to describe how it effected the environment either positive or negatively. For example, how
animals, plants, biomes, and people, were all affected by each real world example. They will also need to include what they think
the long term effects of each hazard will be, answering how it will effects animals, plants, biomes, and people 10-15 years from
now. They will then be required to come up with possible solutions to help the negative effects that the hazard has created.
Within their presentation it will be required that they check for understanding by assigning a question, at least three slides that
their peers will answer. Iit is up to the group on what questions they want to ask and when they want to ask them. Finally the last
slide must also ask for feedback from their peers: What did you like about our presentation and Is there anything we could
have done to improve upon our presentation it is mandatory that this question be set up in a short response form. All questions
will be asked through Pear Deck and responded through Pear Deck. The purpose of having the question be through Pear Deck is
so the responses can be saved and therefore the presenters can reflect on the responses. In addition students can remain
anonymous and this provides comfort in answering the questions and finally so all students remain actively engaged and are
participating throughout the presentations. At the end of the presentations there will be a group discussion centering on the
question Why is this topic of hazards important for us to learn about?

VALUE-ADDED EXPLANATION
Based on the value-added rating scale above, how would you rate the technology integration you described, using the
selected resource?
Explain your rating based on the rubric indicators.

I believe my idea is between a two and a three. The integration idea aligns with the content standard Changes in Environments
while also meeting several of the ISTE-S standards as listed above. Additionally, the lesson is transformed in a way that it would
be impossible not to use Pear Deck because the presentations have to be on that website. They must also utilize technology to
research about their current hazards, the effects of the hazards, form ideas on the future effects the hazards will have, and finally
formulate a possible solution to help the negative effects of the hazard. The research and presentation will require student
engagement and they will master the use of Pear Deck as well as researching. However, during the presentations itself the
students that are not participating wont necessarily be engaged the entire time, they may watch the presentation. Therefore, I
required that students integrate questions throughout their presentations for all students to respond to. The questions include
the understanding of the content and feedback on the presentation to help ensure active engagement throughout the
presentation. Finally students are the center of the environment, the teacher will be watching the presentation and ensuring the
students stay on task, however it is the students that are informing their peers about the hazards that are currently happening
around the world today and its effects on the enviroment.

Below are images of an example I made as a model for my students: Where the code is needed, how to integrate questions into
the presentation, and how to view the answers students give as way to reflect on ones own work.
