Title Fundamental Relation in Geometry

Subject Pythagorean Theorem
Author Kimberly Reid
Grade level High School 10th-12th
Overview

Objective Students will need to memorize Pythagorean Theorem and solve for the
indicated variable.
Essential Question How can Pythagorass theorem be applied in the real world?
Activities and procedures Students will receive several worksheets. Complete the Warm Up
worksheet first. Upon completion of the warm up worksheet, teacher
instruction will be given in lecture format to complete the In-Class
Worksheet. Students will then complete the homework assignment in
small groups (2-3 per group).
Evaluation Each group will present their garden to the class for warm-up the
following day. They will need to explain how they solved for each portion
by doing a step by step instruction on the board.

Conclusion Teacher will provide examples for every day Pythagorean theorem use.
(Architecture, Construction, Navigation, Surveying, etc). Teacher will then
ask students if they believe ships navigated the seas using only the stars
thousands of years ago.

Assignment
Begin by finding a group the size of 2-3 people.
You will create the dimensions for a garden using
the Pythagorean Theorem. Each person in the
group must create their own triangle. The group
will present their garden on the board with a
step-by-step explanation. You must have a
minimum of 4 triangles in your garden. Be
creative in your team design!!!

Here is an example. You may not use this as your

group assignment!
