The document provides calculations to determine the maximum current rating of a 4000A busbar system. It includes:
1) Calculations to determine the DC current rating of 1857A for a single 125mm x 6mm copper flat bar based on its cross-sectional area and perimeter.
2) Adjusting the DC rating to the AC rating of 1688A based on skin effect ratios for copper.
3) Increasing the rating to 5401A for the combined rating of 4 parallel bars.
4) Derating the rating to 4591A and then 4072A to account for the magnetic enclosure and limiting the temperature rise to 40°C respectively.

Section bar on edge in Still air. Area (A) = 125 x 6 =750 sq.mm. Perimeter (P) = 2 x (125 + 6) = 262 mm. By Emperical Formula : Current I dc = 7.73.A 0.5 x P 0.39 Where I dc -Current in amperes. A - Area in Sq. mm. P - Perimeter in mm. Therefore I dc = 7.73 x (750)0.5 x (262) 0.39 = 1857 Amps.
For AC. Rating of Copper Busbar :
The Skin effect ratio for Flat bar of 125 x 6 for 50 hz. Ac. = 1.221 Divide DC Rating by appropriate value of = √1.12 = 1.10 Therefore AC. Rating I ac I dc √ (R"/R) = 1857/1.10 = 1688 Amps.
For AC. Laminated bars in still air :
The multiplying factor for 4 bars is = 3.2 Hence I ac = 3.2 x 1688 = 5401 Amps.
Multiplying factor for Magnetic Enclosure = 0.85
Current after derating for Magnetic Enclosure= 5401 x 0.85 = 4591 Calculations were so far made for temperature rise of 50o C. Multiplying Factor for Temperature rise of 40oC. = 0.887 Therefore, I ac for Laminated busbar, inside the magnatic enclosure, for Temperature rise of 40°C. Is = 0.887 x4591 = 4072 AMPS.
