Dear Mrs. Harrington,

I am writing civic-minded people like you to rally support for our dear
alma mater, Cassidy Elementary School in Carigara, Leyte, Philippines.
Your organization, BOOKS FOR THE BARRIOS, INC. has once donated a
whole library to us. I am an alumna, who now works as an elected town
councilor. Having benefited from your work, my commitment to public
education is stronger than ever. As a matter of fact, I now chair our
schools’ district board.

Our pressing concern right now is that our main school building in
Cassidy has been left to ruin and dilapidating since November 8, 2013-
the onslaught of typhoon Haiyan. Nothing has been done to repair this
106 year old building. Two weeks ago, I brought a topnotch engineer to
inspect it. To my delight, he reported that the building is structurally
intact and would only need major renovation. No need to demolish it, as
has been suggested earlier on. I already consulted all the stakeholders.
We are resolved to campaign for its immediate restoration!

Please help us work for a solution to this quite daunting task at hand.
I am writing you to ask you to be part of this effort. You may connect us
to agencies who could fund the renovation. The building is named after
Mr. Thomas Cassidy, it is a monument to the American Teacher
Volunteers (“Thomasites”) who came in 1904. You may also choose to
donate a library for the benefit of our school.

I will truly appreciate whatever you and your organization can do for this
project. Your contribution is critical to our success.

With every sentiment of respect and best regard, I am

Sincerely yours,

Lorna Marpa
