M R . W ILLSON ’ S S ECOND G RADE N EWSLETTER
We’ve had a great week! We read books together and independently, we created amazing structures during
Inquiry, and we started our new math unit. On top of all that, we took the winter NWEA reading and math tests.
It’s been a busy week!
As I mentioned in the last few newsletters, we’ve been getting hands-on during Inquiry. The Creation Station has
been a central part. Students have been designing amazing structures, such as bridges, office buildings, houses,
and more. We’ve also been studying some fundamental architectural forms, which will help as the kids move into
our culminating project: testing and selecting materials to design (and write about) the playground of their
dreams. Finally, we imagined being stranded on a desert island and created protective hats – using only the
materials found in a bagged lunch!
In Math, we revisited currency. We pretended to buy fruit and vegetables at a market (making sure to pay the
