Design project

Retaining wall
Tasks:
a) find the factor of safety of the single 5m height wall
or the wall made from two 2.5 m steps, as in figure B)
b) find the correct length of the anchors to have factor of safety of 1.6

For calculations assume that the sand is the Hostun sand. Some references are given.

Note that the construction is in stages – first the initial part of the wall is build from bricks with
the reinforcement section, then the sand is filled, than the first rebar anchors (5) are placed,
which are immediately fixed by sand (7a). Then fill 7b follows, with new bricks etc.

- every other block horizontally (c/c min 900 mm) or c/c 450 mm)
- on top of every other block (c/c n. 340 mm), max every block (c/c 170 mm) vertically
Dimensioning the anchors, length and place

Lock tubes: 2,5 m

- The lowes one L 390 mm,

- Other tubes L 340 mm
Block: Fii = 36o, sand
- height 170 mm, construction length 900 m / pair (long&short block)
