Leaguetown High School; 5 W’s and How?

Julia Jachim

Who? Leaguetown High School takes perfect

attendance students with 2 chaperones; Fred
Lipton and Ana Hernandez. Parents and
school board, Dr. Summer, are involved.
Adults involved; Harold Summer, Kimberly
Nguyen, Jillian Massen and Hannah Powlitz.
Students names mentioned; Ivan Massen,
Mark Nepo and April Botello.

What? The high school chooses to honor perfect

attendance students with a special field trip
each year. After going on this trip, 2 students
were left behind by the buses when it was
time to leave the amusement park. This
incident caused the school board to make a
decision of wanting to fire the chaperones
who took the kids on the trip, which lead to a
meeting full of others opinions.

Where? The school is located in Panhandle, but the

Six Flags trip takes place in Arlington, Texas.

When? This trip took place on Saturday, May 12. The

buses arrived at 10 a.m. and departed at 7
p.m.. The students were supposed to meet
up at 6:45 p.m. to not miss the bus. The
school board meeting would have took place
on Monday, May 28.

Why? The 2 students were left at Six Flags because

they lost track of time and did not meet up
with the rest of their school when it was time
to go. These chaperones did not take roll call
which caused the students to be left.

How? The students were left because they did not

get on the bus. The choice of wanting to get
the teachers fired occured when the school
board got notified how “responsible” the
chaperones were. Many students and parents
called the school, and argued to not have
these teachers taken away since they are a
great help to the school. These phone calls
caused an uproar by allowing a day to let
others to voice their opinions towards the
school board to keep the teachers.
