MULTI-MEDIA

Name: Kaylee Pettit

PART A: Students will use Audacity to record themselves saying an original poem based off the “I Remember” model. Then
students will be given multiple different audio clips and use Audacity to mix the poem with music.
Grade Level: 7th
Content Area: English Language Arts
Technology Used (check all that apply): Movie Audio Podcast Vodcast Other: Audacity

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed:

ELAGSE7W3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective
technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.

ELAGSE7SL5: Include multimedia components and visual displays in presentations to clarify claims and
findings and emphasize salient points

Brief Description of Learning Experience: The teacher will guide the students in the process of creating the poem and
using Audacity. Also, the teacher will give the students a complete model and rubric. First, the class will spend time
studying poetry. This will take one class, and at the end, students will be given time to create their own “I Remember”
poem – each line is a memory and begins with “I Remember.” Students will be encouraged to use this model and add their
own creativity, but if they want to do a different type of poem, they must convince the teacher. After writing their poem
students will take two classes to record and mix the poem with music. The first class will focus on familiarizing
themselves with the technology. The students will record and mix their work in the second class.

Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: This lesson is considered to be LoTi level 4. Students are using
technology to create and present their own original work.

Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could the project be
completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other types of technology, if any, are
going to be used in the learning experience?

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: One safety issue always in concern is what students might view on the internet
when working with technology. To minimize risks and comfort parents, I would explain that each computer has safety
software and keeps students from going to risky websites. I would also keep my desk at the back of the room and
regularly walk around to always keep an eye on what the students are doing.
