1. From the given specification, & the axis of the bolt at its horizontal, draw diameter of the bolt & nut as end views & its side elevation
2. Draw the diagram for the standard specifications of the bolt across the diameter, 60° from the axis
3. The bolt’s hexagon head is circumscribed in the circle whose r = ¾ D from the diagram
4. Measure the height/thickness of the bolt head = ⅔ D. To get that value is to draw a 30°  from the ¾ -mark of the diagram
5. Project vertices of hexagon to the bolt head & draw the profile
6. Draw 30° lines as shown
7. Intersection of lines are pivots for drawing arcs tangent to the head edge
8. Chamfer the ends of the bolt head at 60° indicating the circumscribed hexagon
9. Finish the bolt head
10. Measure the bolt length and thread length
11. Draw the screw thread profile
12. Draw the end view of the square nut:: circumscribed square whose r = ¾ D
13. Measure the thickness/height of nut = ⅞ D (from the diagram)
14. Draw the profile of the nut similar to that of the bolt head

INSTRUCTIONS
• The final drawing for the bolt and nut of the
thread length portion must be in v-thread form
• The following slides will guide you in drawing
the v-thread profile for the hexagon and square
head bolts and nuts
• In the final plate, ink the ff using 0.2 tpen:
– center lines of bolt axes, axes for the inscribed &
circumscribed hexagon & square
– circles that circumscribes & inscribes the hexagon &
square
– crest lines
– extension, dimension & leader lines

HOW TO DRAW THE V-THREAD PROFILE

• Measure the Pitch

• draw slope (crest line)
• draw set of parallel crest lines on the marked pitch
• position 30x60 triangle to create V-profile on each crest point
• reverse the triangle’s position to complete the V-thread
• draw root lines
• chamfer the ends using the 45 x 45 triangle based on the root diameter

• must end with a crest line
P

• Measure the Pitch Approx. thread length

• draw slope (crest line)
• draw set of parallel crest lines on the marked pitch
• position 30x60 triangle to create V-profile on each crest point
• reverse triangle, to complete the V-thread
• draw root lines
• chamfer the ends using the 45 x 45 triangle based on the root diameter
