The Correlation between Self-Perception and Scabies Prevention Behavior in
Al-Amien Islamic Boarding School Purwokerto Wetan

ABSTRACT
Background: Scabies is known as scurvy. On the skin it is very itchy
especially at night. This scurvy is caused by mites sarcoptes scabei that enter the
skin, feed on the skin tissue and put their eggs in the skin. Scabies can be defined
as infectious skin disease with manifestations of itchy complaints at night caused
by Sarcoptes scabiei var hominis. The highest transmission in human occurs in a
group of people who live at close quarters. Less personal hygiene also affects the
onset of scabies disease. Self-perception is the key of human self-development and
the formation of their behavior.
Objective: This research was aimed to find out the correlation between self-
perception and scabies prevention behavior in Al-Amien Islamic Boarding School
Purwokerto Wetan.
Research Method: This research was a quantitative research with cross
sectional approach. Sampling technique used in the study was stratified random
sampling of probability sampling with 30 respondents as the samples. The
researcher used questionnaire with checklist as the research instrument.
Result: The result of the data analysis using spearman rank revealed that in
the correlation between self-perception and scabies prevention behavior, majority
of the respondents having self-perception were strongly agree and the numbers of
them were 43 respondents (92.9%) with the behavior always in scabies prevention,
self-perception in the category of agree had 2 respondents (7.1%) with the behavior
always in scabies prevention. The result of statistical test showed that there was no
a significant correlation with the significance value (p-value) = 0.144 higher than α
(0.05) with the correlation coefficience value was 0.176. .
Conclusion: There was no a correlation between self-perception and
scabies prevention behavior in Al-Amien Islamic Boarding School Purwokerto
Wetan.
