Carry over the 4th day lesson last week due to Eid’l Adha
Day 2
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
A. identify the different stages of mitosis found in allium cepa root tip;
B. be familiar with the cellular structures that are prominent in the different stages of
mitosis;
C. manipulate the compound microscope correctly;
D. manifest appreciation on the importance of each phase in mitosis; and
E. manifest teamwork and collaboration in performing the laboratory activity

when observing the onion root tip.

IV. PROCESS
A. Introduction
1. Recall
“ Q and A” : The Cell Cycle
a. The teacher will ask questions to the students about the lesson discussed
previously.
b. Questions to be asked by the teacher:
1. What is cell cycle?
2. What is cell division?
3. What is the difference between cell cycle and cell division?
4. What are the phases of cell cycle?
5. What are the types of cell division?
6. What are the phases of mitosis? Explain each.
7. Does telophase and cytokinesis occur at the same time? Justify your
answer.
c. The students will give a GenBio Clap to the students who will recite for
recognizing their active participation.

2. Setting of Objectives
Today we have a laboratory activity entitled onion root tip investigation. At the
end of the lesson, you will be able to:
A. identify the different stages of mitosis found in allium cepa root tip;
B. be familiar with the cellular structures that are prominent in the different
stages of mitosis;
C. manipulate the compound microscope correctly;
D. manifest appreciation on the importance of each phase in mitosis; and
E. manifest teamwork and collaboration in performing the laboratory activity

B. Interaction
1. Checking of lab gown, blue book, and Gen bio book per team.
2. Presentation of activity format.
3. Explanation of the procedure of the activity.
a. Place the onion root tip slide on the microscope.
b. Using the objective lens (4x), bring one of the root tip in focus, there may
be 2 to 3 onion root tips on your slide. Choose the best root tip by quickly
looking into the bottom of the onion root tip where you see vertical
columns of cells.
c. Position the root tip at the center of your field of view.
d. Locate cells in each of the following stages of your slide: interphase,
prophase, anaphase, metaphase and telophase.
e. Move around the slide to find all the phases. You may switch to another
root tip but be careful that you use the proper knobs to refine the image.
4. Activity proper.
5. Accomplishment of the activity reports.

C. Integration
1. Synthesis
What are the different mitotic phases you have observed from the laboratory
activity?
What have you discovered interphase and mitotic phase based on the
laboratory activity?

2. Valuing
* How were you able to bring out the competencies/skills of a 21 st century
learner?
* How were you able to emphasize excellence in your laboratory activity?
* What is the significance of studying the cell cycle in your daily living?
* Why is it essential to know and identify the phases of cell division?

3. Evaluation
Note* The post laboratory activity will serve as the basis of evaluation purposes.
V. ASSIGNMENT
To facilitate the post-laboratory discussion next meeting, each team should present their
answers to the questions in the activity paper.
Assigned tasks:
Team 1 and 2: Data and Analysis Question Number 1
Team 3 and 4: Data and Analysis Question Number 2
Team 5: Data and Analysis Question Number 3
Team 6: Data and Analysis Question Number 4

Day 3

Orientation of Senior High School Students
Day 4

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
A. identify the different stages of mitosis found in allium cepa root tip;
B. give conclusions, findings and results based on the laboratory activity through a
PowerPoint presentation;
C. share their strengths and weaknesses they have encountered when conducting the
laboratory activity; and
D. manifest teamwork, cooperation and collaboration through the given activity

1. What is the title of the activity number 3?
2. Give the objectives of the activity.
3. What were the materials used in doing the activity?
4. How did you perform the activity? What were the steps you followed?

B. Interaction
Post- Laboratory Discussion
Each group will present their answers to their designated part which are the questions,
conclusion and application parts of the activity.
1. What are the different stages in mitosis that you were able to observe?
2. Which phase do majority of the cells undergo?

during your group activity?
* What is the relevance of studying the cell cycle and its phases in your life as a
STEM student?

3. Evaluation
To assess the learning and understanding of the students toward the activity,
they are tasked to give their insights, new learning and questions using the given
