Construction Method Statement

3rd December 2013

Description: Demolition & New build Works to 7 The Mead

Definition
This construction method statement has been prepared on the request of planning condition no.7,
outlined in the planning approval, application MO/2013/1190.

Security and Site Establishment


Maintained existing fencing, Plywood hoarding or Heras fencing will be erected on the site
boundary, shown on the enclosed Site Logistics plan, to secure it during the contract period.
These hoardings or fences will be maintained and adapted during the contract to suit the phasing
of the works.
Site office and welfare facilities will be established as identified on this plan, utilising the servicing
points identified in the documents and shown on the drawings. Temporary site accommodation
and welfare will comprise of the Building Managers office/Canteen, these will be erected on
suitable hard standings.

Personnel
All personnel will be inducted prior to gaining access to the sit e. They will be informed of the
specific site rules required in the preliminaries relating to this project , as well as Armata’s site
rules and their own companies method statements.

Site Access and Deliveries


Vehicular and pedestrian access to the site compound will be from the Mead. Vehicles will be
able to turn around on site, avoiding complicated reversing procedures. Delivery constraints will
be identified to all suppliers and trade contractors. Deliveries of materials, plant and equipment
will be controlled and co-ordinated to best ability prevent congestion and disruption to traffic using
the Mead, and will take place in the zone highlighted on the site logistic plan. Parking for all site
operatives and visitors will be on the development site, this can also be identified on this plan.

Signage
Adequate signage will be installed such that vehicle deliveries and access to the site are clearly
defined within the general site geographical area.
A main construction signboard will be positioned in agreement with the Client. Site signage will be
provided within the curtilage of the site as necessary to advise operatives/visitors and delivery
staff of safety requirements within the confines of the site and where to rep ort on arrival. Such
signage will include: - Accommodation, Access requirements, Safety Requirements & Danger.

Movement and Hoisting of Materials
The storage of materials on site will be kept to an absolute minimum and therefore delivery
scheduling will be carried out to ensure supply is on a ‘just in time’ basis only. Storage will take
place in the zone highlighted on the site logistic plan. All concrete and screed deliveries will be
proposed as ‘ready mixed’ and will be delivered to site in appropriate vehicles. Concrete and
screed placement techniques will be changed and adapted to suit the location and suitability of
the equipment for its placement.

Storage and Handling


The contractor’s site area will provide the storage area for all plant and materials delivered to
site. Materials will be stored within the building. More vulnerable materials/equipment will be
stored in the secure site hut, shown on the site logistic plan, or programmed on to site to be
incorporated directly into the construction.

Waste Management
Rubbish skips will be provided within the development site area, which will be removed and
replaced on a regular basis. All trade contractors will be required to transport and deposit their
rubbish within this provision. We are working towards better understanding waste management
so the volume of waste to be disposed is reduced and segregation enables as much as possible
to be recycled.

Tree Root Protection Areas


To manage access to the site, it will be necessary to apply temporary root protection to part of
the area surrounding the large oak. This area is labeled as RPA-1 on the site logistic plan. This
follows the agreed tree root plan. We propose that the tried and proven method of Terram
Geocell 25/10, be installed to these marked areas to provide the necessary tree root protection
throughout the entirety of the build process. All works in this area will be under approved
arboricultural supervision, in line with the tree root protection report. The document fact sheet for
Terram Geocell is appended with this method statement.

Dust and Debris


The site will be kept clean and tidy at all times and will accord with all statutory requirements.
Particular attention will be given to preventing the contamination of the adjoining roadway.

Safety
Full recognition and regard will be taken in the management and execution of the project of the
Construction Design and Management Regulations 1994. All trade contractors are obliged to
provide safety policies, plans and method statements and will be interviewed prior to order
placement on all aspects of safety, health and welfare.

All Armata sites are subject to site safety checks. Employer’s direct contractors will be required to
accord and be subject to the same Armata safety procedures and requirements as our own trade
contractors and operatives, as outlined above. Safety inspections will also include the works of
the employer’s direct contractors if appropriate.
