Definition of PED Main Pressure-Bearing Parts and CMTR 1/3

Guidance for non Pressure Parts.
M-2746-En JS-102 RESTRICTED

SUBJECT: Definition of PED Main Pressure-Bearing Parts and CMTR Guidance for non Pressure Parts.

SCOPE: These definitions apply to all JAMESBURY® and NELES® brand products.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this specification is to define the parts that are considered "Main Pressure-bearing
Parts" per Annex I, Paragraph 4.3 of the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED)(Reference 1) in
order to ensure that PED material supplier qualifications are enforced for wrought base materials.

REFERENCES:
1. Directive 2014/68/EU: Pressure Equipment Directive
2. PR 101: Metso Supplier Approval
3. JS-98: JAMESBURY Word Modifier Master
4. EN10204: Metallic materials. Types of inspection documents
5. JS-109: Processing valve products for NACE MR0103 compliance

GENERAL:
1. Main pressure –bearing (MPB) parts are parts for which the pressure retaining function is a significant
design consideration, or a pressure bearing part that is permanently connected to a main pressure
bearing part.
2. The material manufacturer for the base material used for Main Pressure-Bearing parts must be qualified in
accordance with Reference 2.
3. Main pressure bearing parts, as defined in TABLE 1, shall be supplied with certified material test reports
(CMTR) in accordance with EN10204, type 3.1 for every heat code.
4. Barstock, Pipe and Plate - Raw form stock, like barstock, pipe, and plate, must be purchased with an EN
10204, type 3.1 Certified Material Test Report (CMTR). Traceability is required when a MPB part, as
listed in Table 1, is manufactured from raw stock. In this case, the heat code must be transferred from the
raw stock to the finished MPB part to maintain traceability. When raw stock is used to manufacture a
Non-MPB part (i.e a part not listed in, Table 1, such as a shaft, stem, spacer, handle, etc.) traceability is
not required and heat numbers do not need to be transferred.
5. Wetted, non-pressure boundary parts, Table 2, will be purchased with EN 10204, 2.2 material test reports
to facilitate documentation for NACE service per JS-109.
