2018 National Reading Month Narrative

To promote love for reading and to celebrate the diversity of learners and culture through reading,
the Department of Education (DepEd) spearheaded the nationwide celebration of the 2018
National Reading Month (NRM) this November, DepEd Memorandum No. 175 s. 2018.
This year’s theme is Pagbasa: Susi sa Magandang Kinabukasan. All schools and learning centers
are enjoined to hold activities promoting reading among elementary and secondary learners.
The NMR shall culminate with the nationwide synchronize story reading time on November 27,
2018. This day every year has been declared by the Republic Act No. 10556 as “Araw ng
Pagbasa”, which shall regularly be a regular working holiday, to be celebrated in all elementary
and secondary schools in the country.
In line with the said memorandum, Pagsanjan Integrated National Highschool took part in the said
activity. Grade 8 English teachers, Ms. Rhesie Lyne F. Villanueva and Mrs. Alma Mae G. Robles,
had a reading aloud class session. The teachers read the short story “The Husband” in their
classes.
After reading the short story aloud, the story was processed by going through its elements. The
students also shared the moral or lessons they got from the story.
