AVAILABILITY CHECK AND ATP CHECK

When we create a sales order, there are several basic functions which are executed automatically for
the dynamic order management. Among these basic functions, availability check and transfer of
requirements are crucial.
The system first prepares schedule line containing the information on the desired delivery date and
quantities, this information is passed to MRP and an availability check and transfer of requirements are
executed
First, the system carries out backward scheduling and establishes the material availability date = desired
delivery date-transit time-loading time-picking & packing time and on this date an availability check is
carried out using ATP logic.

ATP logic states that the available to promise quantity = Total Warehouse Stock + Planned receipts
(Incoming Stock) - Planned Issues (Outgoing stock)

What is the difference between ATP check and availability check

ATP Check is checking of availability quantities i.e ATP = Total Warehouse Stock + Planned receipts
(Incoming Stock) - Planned Issues (Outgoing stock)
Availability Check is an integral part of business process it determines if the desire deliverable quantity
can be met on requested delivery date or not. Then it passes to Material Requirement Planning. Or we
can also say.

GATP

GATP- Stands for Global Available To Promise. GATP is like promising to customer demands based on
some predefined availability checks on your existing stocks. It uses ATP rules to decide whether the
customer demands can be confirmed against the available stocks.

It is a tool by which you try to maximize your servicing capacity to the customer by using different
methods of GATP.

ATP versus GATP

ATP functionality is already there in R/3 but with limitations :-

1. ATP-Availability check in ERP is limited to single location.


2. Product Substitution is manual and it is limited to single material substitution.
3. Production cannot be called from ATP check for a MTS product.
4. No simulation.
5. Availability check cannot be carried out at component level
GATP Methods

The ATP check – also known as the availability check – represents an online search that should ensure
that your company can provide the requested product at the requested time in the quantity requested
by the customer. The various methods used in GATP are as follows.

CHECK MODE:

Check Mode in APO (RAP) corresponds to Requirement Class in ECC (RBP) system.
In the requirement class, it is defined whether ATP check should be carried out and requirements should
be transferred for a material in Sales and Distribution documents (Sales order, Delivery etc).
Requirement type is assigned to Requirement class. Requirement type is in turn determined via the
Strategy group maintained in Material Master.
