PRE5 – Thermal envelope. Opaque walls.

Points to take into account:

•Thermal bridges (corners, pillars, platform…)
•Structure in façade
•Shading element in the south façade
•Different finishes
•Projecting parts of the façade (heterogeneous)

PRE6 – Thermal envelope. Windows.
3 different kinds of windows currently:
•Wood frame and single glazing
•Aluminium frame (without thermal break), double glazing
•Aluminium frame (with thermal break), double glazing

Points to take into account:

•Some windows have an acceptable
thermal performance
•Shading devices in south façade

PRE8 – Energy systems. HVAC and DHW.
1. Space heating load. Is met by a district heating system. It provides hot water to the different
buildings of the campus.
‐ 7 natural gas fired condensing boilers
‐ Building heating distribution system is formed by 2 independent circuits: radiators placed
on north and south facing rooms.
‐ Heat production and distribution temperature ranges from 100 to 80 ºC

A2PBA2PBEER– Affordable and Adaptable Public Buildings through Energy Efficient Retrofitting

PRE8 – Energy systems. HVAC and DHW.
2. Cooling. No centralized cooling system. Some areas are covered by autonomous systems.

3. Ventilation: No mechanical ventilation system is available currently. Rooms are ventilated by

opening operable windows by the users.

4. DHW: DHW demand is negligible.

PRO1 – Objectives and areas of intervention
OBJECTIVES
1. Make some structural repairs
2. Improve the global energy performance of the building (Passive and active elements)
3. Improve the comfort conditions of the workplaces
4. Update the building image

AREAS OF INTERVENTION. SUMMARY

Opaque façade: External ventilated façade with vacuum insulation panels (VIPs).
Windows: A2PBEER reversible windows + high performance windows (orientation) + Shading element in
the nursery (?)
Rooftop: To cover the unprotected part + addition a mineral wool insulation in the nursery ceiling
Lighting: (West block only) Fiber optic + LED in the 2nd floor; Smart control of LED lighting depending of
the natural lighting availability
HVAC: (West block only) Mechanical ventilation (including free cooling) + Thermostatic control valves

PRO3 – Envelope. Opaque walls.
The whole opaque façade are going to be covered with the A2PBEER project developed external
ventilated façade with vacuum insulation panels (VIPs). Thermal transmittance value: 0.27W/m2K.

‐PVC clip system mounting to the wall

‐1100x700x30 insulation panels finished with protecting rubber.

PRO6 – Lighting system.
Current lighting system is going to be substituted by:

‐ Hybrid luminaires; LED lighting + fibre optic/difussers + control: Luminaires that provide
natural lighting + LED power to achieve the lighting levels needed.

‐ LED lighting + control: Luminaries that controls LED power depending on the available
natural light.
