We are pleased to inform you that our Retail SBU, in their continuing endeavor and
commitment towards Green Technology, have recently commissioned a Biomass
Gasifier Plant of 10 KW capacity, 100% Gas Producer Biomass Power Generating
System at our Soolagiri COMCO outlet under Coimbtore Retail Region.

80% depreciation is available within the first year of capitalization besides subsidy
of Rs.1.10 Lacs from Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources (MONES) on a
capital investment of Rs.7.80 Lacs.

This Biomass Gasifier Power Generating System is the first of its kind to be
implemented in a retail outlet in India. HPCL has tied up for supply of Biomass feed
stock and operation of the Plant for 5 years including Comprehensive AMC for a
period of five years after 1 year Warranty.

With the commissioning of 10 KW Biomass Plant (13.5 HP) and two solar PV
System of 6 KW each (8 X 2 =16 HP) at this outlet, a total of approximately 30 HP
is getting generated through renewable energy resources. This is a small beginning
towards usage of alternate energy resources at our retail outlet.

SYSTEM :

The system uses biomass fuels like rice husk, wood, cotton stalk, mustard stalk,
coconut shells, corncob, corn grit, ground nut shell, coffee husk tea/coffee waste
etc., as a feed stock which will be dried and burned inside the Gasifier. The hot
gasses thus generated are fed to a turbine and electricity produced is fed to the
connected load. The system is expected to operate 10 to 12 Hours per day
(minimum).

Environmental Benefits :

Bio mass gasifier plant does not produce any harmful effluents. Charcoal and ash
produced are bio-degradable and 10% of dry charcoal can be used again in the
gasifier, while the rest can be used as cooking fuel or as activated carbon in air
driers or can be used as pit filling material.

Pollution/Effluents/Gaseous Emissions/Environmental conditions :

1. Water circulation for Engine cooling is in closed loop and no effluent water is
released
to the drains.

2. Exhaust from gas engine using producer gas is cleaner than the conventional fuel
due
to absence of Sulphur in Biomass.

3. Gasifier, being a renewable source energy equipment, is considered greener

 technology, free from any major environmentally adverse effects.
