1. POPULATION
When we talk about the population of a region, it refers to
people who live there.
Population of a town or country changes because of the
birth rate, death rate, emigration and inmigration.
Two lists are used to study and classify the population:
• The national census which is the list of all the people
living in the country.
• The municipal register which is a list of all the people
living in a town or city.

Population in relation to the employment, can be divided into two
groups:
• Economically active population refers to adults who are able
to work. This type os population includes the working population
and the unemployment population.
• Economically inactive population is made up of people in
unpaid jobs and people who do not work.

3. THE THREE SECTORS OF ECONOMY


The economically active population can be grouped into three
main sectors:
• The primary sector that includes all those activities which
produce natural products. The primary sector includes these
activities: farming, cattle farming, mining and fishing.
• The secondary sector that includes all those activities
which transform natural products into manufactured
products. They are crafts and industry.
• The tertiary sector includes all those activities which
provide a service: health, education, transport, tourism…
