Whirlpool
Washing Machine
Prospective Design for 2030

7th Semester
Professor: Elí Josué Tello Bragado
Collaboration:
Daniela Fernández, María Fernanda
Martínez, Rebeca Rodríguez
Brief
Design a washing machine in collaboration
with Whirlpool Corporation that reflects
future tendencies that could be seen in the
year 2030.
Future Tendencies
-Reduction in living spaces
-Sustainable design
Insights -UI/UX design
-Inclusivity

We conducted 50 interviews to washing machine owners ages 18-45.

Green indicative
light: Wash in progress

Red indicative light: Wash
completed

Indicative lights add inclusivity to users with

auditory problems who cannot hear the
products´feedback.
Perfumed steam is released into the
drum of the washing machine using a
compressed nozzle. This permits
clothes to be washed with minimal
water quantities and reduces power
since no heat is required.
This washing machine links by Bluetooth to the users' phone
through a Whirlpool application, allowing them to control
functions without having to be present.

in 2030, we predict most of all household

appliances will be digital with
interactive touch screens linked to our
handheld devices, controlled by the push of
a button.
Similar to a coffee maker, this washing
machine would have a water tank to be
refilled periodically. This is so that the
product can be installed anywhere in the
users' home without worrying about the
water source.

Use

Because of reduced living spaces, instead

of swinging open and potentially taking
more space, this washing machine opens
by rotating on an axis, sealing once closed.

Beech Chair
Andreu World 2018
Contemporary Design Contest

7th Semester
Professor: Ricardo Contreras Marcos
Collaboration:
María Fernanda Martínez,
Carolina Hilda Castro
Brief
Design a chair based on the
requirements for the Andreu World 2018
furniture design contest.

Challenge
-The main materials to be used would
be Beech, Oak or Walnut.
-The final prototype would have to be
entered at a scale of 1:5.
Process

Full-scale cardboard
models were then
made to experiment
the fabrication
methods.
Based on the initial sketch, a 1:5 scale clay
model was sculpted to experiment forms.
This render created using Fusion 360 shows
the density and curvature of the chair.

Assembly: Joined together with wooden dowels then finished

with a polyurethane coating to add hardness.
This design seeks
to achieve a
balance of
lightness and
heaviness, the
lightness found in
the soft color of
the beech wood
and the
heaviness found
in the solid form
and hard lines.

Brief
Create a design to represent the Embassy During FICA, Embassies in Mexico participate
of Japan at the International Friendly in the Fair to promote their own culture
Cultures Fair (FICA) held in Mexico City. and many people visit to enjoy them.
Using inspiration from
Japanese screens, we
designed the Japanese
Pavilion.

These screens are to

display information
about Japan's culture.

The slanted and red painted

wood on the screen provide an
illusion of the Japanese flag.
After creating the 3D models
using SketchUp, the parts were
sent to be laser cut in MDF.

Process
The booth of the Japanese Embassy promotes
Japan Design with the history of “Good Design
Award”, showing the contrast of “Past and Present”
of the product design with these graphic panels.

The product design timeline spans from 1950 - 2015.

Quick assembly

Because the exhibition was temporary, a

quick assembly solution was created.
Binder clips were used as wedges between
MDF pieces simulating small clamps holding
the pieces together.

Multipurpose kitchen frother

6th Semester
Professor: Melissa Díaz Quiroz
Collaboration:

Brief
Redesign a tool that allows use without having to
make sudden movements. The redesign will include
materials and functions that give the tool a better
performance, applying organic forms to create an
ergonomic design as well as an aesthetic one.

4th Semester
Professor: Diego Adrián Garza Yañez
Prism is a desk lamp that seeks to
find a balance between light and
