Permissible bearing stress = 0.45 x Fck x (√A1 / √A2)


= 0.45 x 20 x 2 = 18 N/mm2
Actual bearing stress = (Factor load / area at column base)
= (253.3 x 1000) / (350 x 350) = 2.06 N /mm2
Since the Actual bearing stress (2.06 N/mm2) is less than the Permissible bearing stress (18
N/mm2), the design for bearing stress is satisfactory.
