Report on Production Day

On Thursday the 13th of December, LettuceEat Ltd had our Production Day. The purpose
of Production Day is to finish making and packaging all the goods, and to gather all the
things we will need for Sales Day. Here I will talk about what my role as both a member
of Production Group A and a Financial Controller was.
At the start of Production Day, all of LettuceEat Ltd gathered in the Dress Design Room.
Some of the girls went with Ms Griffin into the kitchen to cook all the products we had
frozen beforehand, such as apple tarts and mince pies. While they did the rest of us split
into our Production groups to finish our products. Kara and I were working together on
finishing the hot chocolate kits. It was our job to add the marshmallows and chocolate
chips, tie them off, and decorate the bags. Kara came up with an idea to take some
clingfilm, fold it up and place it in the bag between the hot chocolate powder and the
rest of the ingredients. This was a great idea, as it prevented the hot chocolate powder
from staining the marshmallows, which had been one of our main concerns. We then
tied the piping bags with ribbon and added pom-poms and googly eyes to decorate.
While this was going on, the others were packaging their products as well. In the end,
everything was packaged, put into boxes, and labelled for either the Credit Union or the
Bridge Centre.
It was the job of some other girls to create stands for the Bridge Centre and the Credit
Union, and to work on our display until they knew how each stand would be set up and
decorated, where the products would sit on the display, and what stuff would need to
be put in a box for Sales Day.
As am member of the Finance team, it was also my job to write down all the expenses in
the cash book, to mark what we have paid back yet, to take all receipts and to organise
all that is necessary for finance on Sales Day. For Sales Day, the Finance team had to:
locate the money belts (2 for each stand and 2 for the Finance team), locate the receipt
books, organise the float (€20 of change in the money belts of each seller), and put the
floats in the money belts. We also had to organise a float for the Sales Day in the school,
as there would be hot chocolate and cookies sold in the school the next day. It was
slightly stressful at times, but successful in the end. If I was to change anything, it would
have been to just divide the change into the money belts first and put it straight into the
belts, instead of trying to split the change in each money belt up into the little money
bags depending on whether it was, for example, €2 or 50c
All in all, I enjoyed Production Day, and found it a memorable and very productive
experience. I learned that life is far easier for me if I have structure and examples to use
in order to know what to do.
