LAVERIE RULES: You wear it, we wash it!

1.1 Name of the Firm

Among  the  various  names that the proponents have thought, we have chosen

Laverie,  French  word  for  Laundromat,  to  be  the  official  name  of  our  proposed

business.  This  is  because  it  represents  the  modernity  of  the  business  and  so  as

its  general  concept,  to  provide  our  customers  with  new,  modern  and fast way of

doing their laundry.

As  a  trend  today,  some  businesses  names  their  firm  in different languages so

as  to  catch  the  attention  of  the  customers.  Having  different  language  as  a  name

of  the  firm  adds  to  its  creative  look.  French  as  the  second  most  elegant  and

romantic  language  in  the  world  is  the  reason  why  we  chose  the  French  term  of

Laundromat.

The  proponents  come  up  with  the  name  Laverie  for  the  Laundromat  because

it  is  catchy  when  it  comes  to  young  people  and  also  it  gives  a  connotation  that

laundry can also be done in a fun, easy and time efficient way.

1.2 Company Logo and its Meaning

Logo  is  a  symbolic  representation  of  it’s  entirely.  A  splat  of  water  with

bubbles  represents  the  process  that  clothes  undergo  in  doing  laundry.  The

company  chose  the  logo  to  best  represent  the  service  we  want  to  offer  the

customers.  The  customers  can  easily  recognize  the  kind  of  service  the  business

would  render  by  just  looking  at  the  logo.  We  add  its  name  in  the middle of it for

1 | Page
LAVERIE RULES: You wear it, we wash it!

the  name  to  be  remembered.  We  pick  blue  as  the  color  of  the  logo  because  it  is

the color of the water.

1.3 Location

The  proponents  chose  a  commercial  space  at  Ellen’s  Building,  Demares

Farmville,  Sta.  Fe  Village  corner  Mint  and  Oregano  Street,  Lopez  Avenue,  Brgy.

Batong Malake, Los Banos, Laguna.

The  site  is  located  on  the  road  along  the  way  to  University  of  the  Philippines

Los  Banos.  It  is  below  a  dormitory  and  is  surrounded  by  commercial

establishments,  like  grocery,  computer  shops,  other  dormitories,  apartments,

room  for  rent  and  food  establishments.  It  is  also  beside  the  main  road,  which

makes it more accessible for potential customer to visit.

1.4 Brief Description of the Project

Laverie  is  not  the  typical  laundry  shop  that  you  can  see  every  day  on

every  corner.  It  is  a  Laundromat.  A  Laundromat  is  an  establishment  with  coin

operated  washing  machine  and  dryer  for  public  use.  Since,  it  is  not  yet

introduced  in  the  Philippines  the  proponents  find  it  as  an  opportunity to venture

as  a  business.  This  is  designed  for  customers  who  are  expecting  fast  laundry

service  and  to  contribute  to  the  advancement  of  the  laundry  industry  in  the

country.

1.5 Project Summary

2 | Page
LAVERIE RULES: You wear it, we wash it!

This  study  covers  the  major  aspects  needed  to  undergo  in  the possibly

research,  which  indicates  market  feasibility,  technical  feasibility,  management

feasibility and socio-economic feasibility.

1.4.1 Market Feasibility

The  study  implies  the  market  possibilities  of  the  business

showing  a  considerable  number  of  demands,  which  is  90%.  In

detailed  format,  this  study  is  concerned  with  the  target  market

matters,  its  demand  and  how  can  the  business  be  able  to  serve

the customers according to their preference.

With  this  study,  the  sales  for  the  upcoming  years  are

being  forecasted.  Due  to  that,  it  gives  information  about  how,

where,  when  should  the  business  focus.  Another  thing  that  has

shown  in  this  study  are  the  strategies  that the business may use

for  the  improvement  and  growth  of  its  competing  ability  by

having  additional  services  that  was  served  in  the  Laundromat

like having a free Wi-Fi on the establishment itself.

1.4.2 Technical Feasibility

The  Laverie  that  is  located  along  the  road  of  Lopez

Avenue  will  be  offering  a  Laundromat  service  in  its  finest

alongside  with pressing of clothes if the customer desires. Giving

3 | Page
LAVERIE RULES: You wear it, we wash it!

these  services,  certain  standards  must  be  followed  by

employees.  The  nearby  suppliers  make  the  equipment  and

supplies  needed  for  the  daily  operations  available.  Most  of  the

utilities  used  were  electricity,  water,  and  telephone  and  internet

connection.

1.4.3 Management Feasibility

Laverie  comes  up  with  a  partnership  form  of  business

ownership  because  of  some  sited  benefits.  The owners will raise

the  capitalization  by  contributing  their  won  earnings  and  some

borrowings.  Due  to  the  small  type  of  organization,  this  project

will  come  up  with  a  simple  organizational  chart,  which  includes

the  owners,  administrative  officer,  supervisor  and  3  attendees.

The  management  sets  several  policies  to  help  them  monitor  the

proper  behavior  of  their  employees  and  to  have  a  guide  in

decision making process.

1.4.4 Financial Feasibility

The  financial  feasibility  of  the  study  shows  a  reasonable

amount  for  each  cost  and  expense  of  the  company.  The  income

statement  of  Laverie  along  with  the  projected  one  show  a

positive  outcome  for  the  project.  The  financial  analysis  shows

4 | Page
LAVERIE RULES: You wear it, we wash it!

the  ability  of  the company to overcome long term and short term

liabilities.

1.4.5 Socio-economic impact

Laverie  is  not  only  committed  in  providing  excellent

services  to  its  clients  but  also  dedicated  in  contributing  its

resources  to  the  achievement  of  national  growth  and

development.  Generating  local  employment  and  the  proper

paying  of  taxes  can  do  this  so  as  having  corporate  social

responsibility.

2.1 Brief background of the study

Laundry  shop  service  is  one  of  the  most  wide-spread  business  venture  that

Filipinos  patronize  nowadays.  In  the  Philippines  there  are  large  number  of  laundry

shop and also the same with dormitories.

It  is  a  test  for  our  study  to  prove  that  we  can  compete  against  international

and  local  Laundromat  businesses. The uniqueness in our Laundromat industry lies in

our  location.  We  will  put  it  beside/under  dormitories  so  that  we  can  provide  the

students  of  University  of  the  Philippines-Los  Banos  an easy access of a Laundromat

business.  Aside  from  that  we  will  offer  a  free  wifi  inside  our  Laundromat

establishment  for  the  students,  ideally  for  doing  research  and  studying  while

waiting.

“A  catchy  name  can  catch  them  right  away”,  that  is  why  we  have  decided  to

name our business as “Lavarie”, a French term for Laundromat. The name itself gives

the  meaning  of the business --- Laundromat service that help you wash your clothes

hassle free.

2.2 Objectives of the study

According  to  the  research  made  by  the  proponents  and  after  knowing  the

needs  of  the  prospective  customers,  they  have  concluded  and  formulated  the

objectives  of  the  study.  To  promote  Laundromat  service  that  is  coin  operated  and

self-service  different  from  the  typical  laundry  shop;  to  create  a  Laundromat  service

that  is  time  efficient  and  convenient  in  terms  of  location;  to  provide  quality  services

at  an  affordable  price;  and  to  develop  an  idea  that  going  to  a  Laundromat  is  more

enjoyable nad worthwhile than any typical laundry shop.

2.3 Operational Definition of the study

Detergent  –  a  water-soluble  cleansing  agent  that  combines  with  impurities  and  dirt

2.4 Scope and Delimitation of the study

The  proponents  wanted  to  have  a  Laundromat  service  that would change the

way  typical  laundry  shop  does,  as  well  as  the  different  individual  who  are  seeking

more convenient and time efficient business of this type.

This  study  will  focus  only  to  the  unique  self-service  type  of  business  that  we

would  be  serving.  It  will  operate  within  the  University  of  the  Philippines-Los  Banos

in which the proponents selected to start of their operation.

The  population  that  the  proponents  used  in  computing  the  sample  size  is the

population  of  the  students  from  the  dormitories  inside  the  campus  premises  from

age’s  16  years  old  and  above.  The  study  basically  focused  on  one  location  for  the

Laundromat  operation  which  is  University  of  the  Philippines  Los  Banos.  In  which

most of the questionnaires were distributed in this said dormitory.

It  also  includes  the  requirements in putting up a business such as Department

of  Trade  and  Industry  (DTI),  Bureau  of  Internal  Revenue  (BIR)  and  other  legal

documents.

Market Study

Marketability  of  a  product  or  service  is  one  of  the  major  determinants  of  a

feasibility  study.  Marketing  is  a  strategy  which  is  essential  for  companies  to  create

customer  interest  about  the  business.  It  doesn’t  begin  with  a  great  idea  or a unique

service.  It  begins  with  those  people  who  want  or  need  the  service  and  will  actually

accept it.

We  must  create  an  effective  and  cost-efficient  marketing  strategy  for  the

business  to  operate  in  a  long  run.  A  business  must  possess  a  detailed  objective

understanding  of  their  own  business,  and  the  market  in  which  they  operate,  regard

with  the  product  or  service,  promotion,  price,  and  place  of  distribution.  This

marketing strategy holds the business to stay in the long run.

3.1Objectives of the Study

The study aims to:

- know whether this kind of service will be feasible to the market

- determine the possible market of the business

- be able to project the future demand and supply of the business

- set reasonable price of the service

- able to know and analyze business edge over its competitors

10 | Page
LAVERIE RULES: You wear it, we wash it!

-  develop  the  appropriate  marketing  strategies  with  regards  to  the

business

3. 2 Methodology

The  determination  of  having  the  target  market  is  done  by  getting  the

population  of  University  of  the  Philippines-Los  Banos’  students  staying  in  their

inside  the  university  dormitories  and  outside  or  within  the  vicinity  where  the

proposed  project  will  be  located.  The  total  population  of  that  is  2,308.  Using  the

Sloven’s  Formula  with  5%  margin  of  error,  we  can  derive  the  number  of  persons  to

be surveyed.

N
n= 1+N e2
n = 341

n= 2,308

1+(2,308)(0.05)2

n= 1+5.77

Where:   N = Total population

n = sample size  e= margin of error

Sources of Data

The data gathered for this were obtained through survey questionnaires given

to the segmented market of the students staying in dormitories inside and outside of

the  said  campus.  Primary  data  regarding  the  total  population  of  the  study  was

acquired  from  the  University  of  the  Philippines  Housing  Office.  Moreover,  the

proponents  also  conducted  an  interview  with  some  laundry  shops  near  the  location

to  be  able  to  get  additional  information  that  might  be  useful  for  the  study.  Also,

other information was taken from the books, internet and other related studies.

3.3 Demand

Year  Population  Gross  Market  Frequency / week  Total Demand in units

Brought  by  the  fast  growing  population  of  students  that  are  staying  in

dormitories  that  needs  a  fast  service  when  it  comes  to  their  laundry  and because of

lack  of  laundry shop; we come up with this type of business. It is a great opportunity

for us to venture a Laundromat.

3.3.1 Consumption for the Past year

Statistics  from  the  University  of  the  Philippines  Housing  Office  are  used  to

calculate  the  past  demand.  It  is  projected  using  1%  population  growth  rate.  The

student  population  is  multiplied  with  90%  market  acceptability  which  is  based  on

the question number 5.2 of our survey questionnaire. The frequency of the availment

of consumers is based on question number 6 of our survey questionnaire.

3.3.2 Major Consumers

The  major  clients  of  the  service  are  the  students  staying  in dormitories

which  maybe  inside  or  outside  the  campus.  Every  students  staying  in  dormitories

can  be  a  customer.  Based  on  the  conducted  survey,  most  of  the  respondents  will

patronize the business.

2019  2400  90%  1  2160

To  determine  the  projected  demand,  we  considered  the  projected  population

of  University  of  the  Philippines-Los  Banos’  students  staying  in  their  inside  the

university  dormitories  and  outside  or  within  the  vicinity  where  the proposed project

will  be  located.  Target Market are the people who availed the service Laverie offered

and who are willing again to purchase in the future.

Target Market = (Target Population) (Gross Market Acceptability)

= (2308) (90%)

Target Market (2015) in Batong Malake = 2077 (in units)

Total  Demand  =  (Target  Market)  (Frequency  of  Availment  per

Week)

Demand for 2015 = (2077) (1)

3.4 Supply

To  analyze  and  interpret  the  current  supply  of  our  market,  the  researchers

used  personal  interviews  from  conducted  survey.  Since  78%  of  the respondents are

not  aware  of  the  self-service  type,  coin  operated  and  time  efficient  Laundromat,

based  on  the  question  number  5  of our questionnaire. In addition to that 22% of the

students  that  are  aware  of  the  service  said  that  this type of business is only present

in other countries.

3.4.1 Past Supply

15 | Page
LAVERIE RULES: You wear it, we wash it!

Supply  for  the  past  years  is  the  same  as  the  consumption  for  the  past  years

since  Laundromat  cannot  be  inventoried  unlike  physical  good  and  products.  To

determine  the  projected  supply,  the  researchers  assumed  20%  of  supply  from  their

projected demand.

Year  Projected  Assumption  Frequency / week  Supply

demand

2009  1,973  20%  1  395

2010  1,994  20%  1  399

2011  2,015  20%  1  403

2012  2,035  20%  1  407

2013  2,056  20%  1  411

3.4.2 Projected Supply

Same  procedures  were  made  in  Table  in  getting  the  projected  supply.

The  said  growth  rate  used  in  getting  the  demand  was  still  used  in  projecting  the

proceeding years.

Year  Projected  Assumption  Frequency / week  Projected supply

demand

2018  2139  20%  1  428

2019  2160  20%  1  432

3.5 Demand and Supply Analysis

Using  projections  of  demand  and  supply as of supply as of 2015-2019,

we  can  identify  the  gap  between  the  two,  by  deducting  the  projected  supply  to  the

projected demand.

Table 5: Demand and Supply Gap

Year  Projected Demand  Projected Supply  Gap (in units)

2015  2077  415  1662

LAVERIE RULES: You wear it, we wash it!

The name of the firm was conceptualized in a creative way that it could vik

ly be remembered by potential customers.

“Laverie”  is  a  French  term  for  Laundromat  where  people  can  pay  to  use

machines  to  wash  and  dry  their  clothes.  The  name  itself  give  a  unique  and

interesting identity of the business.

Pricing

The  proponents used Value Based Pricing as a basis for the assumption of the

price  of  the  service  rendered,  since  there  is  a  shortage  of  laundry  shop  in  the  said

location.  The  service  would  cost  P55  per  kilo.  It  would  cover  the  washing  and  the

drying  of  the  clothes.  As  for the ironing services, the proponents take It as an option

for the customers which costs P9 peso.

Place of Distribution

The  proponents  have  chosen  the  place  located  along  the  road  on  the  way  to

University  of  the  Philippines  Los  Banos with a business address of Ellen’s Dormitory

Demarses  Farmville,  Sta.  Fe  Village  corner  mint  and  oregano  street  Lopez  Avenue,

Brgy. Batong Malake, Los Banos, Laguna of about 50 sq. m.

Our  strategic  place  of  distribution  by  its  proximity  is  below  Ellen’s  Dormitory

along  the  road  on  the  way  to  the  campus,  so  as  to  have  easy  access  among

students.  It  is  surrounded  by  different  food  and  other  establishments,  could  turn

their  sights  towards  our  location  which  totally generate a wide range of prospective

customers.

We  assure  the  customer’s  quality service with the highest level of satisfaction

that  will  either  make  or  break  their  decision  to  go  back  and  patronize  the  place

again. In attending so, the store manager must be present most of the time.

000 pieces. They agreed to advertise twice a year multiply to the target market of P

2, 500.

21 | Page
LAVERIE RULES: You wear it, we wash it!

The proponents presumed that the cost of posters is P 3, 000.00 per year.

They agreed to print 50 pieces of posters per month multiply to 12 months.

The proponents presumed that the total cost of tarpaulin is P 2, 800.00 per

year. They presumed that the total cost per quarter is P 700.00 multiply by 4 to get

the total of P 2, 800.00.

The proponents presumed that the total advertising expense per year is P 10,

800.00. They presumed to print 5, 000 pcs. Of flyers that cost P 5, 000.00, 600 pcs.

of posters that cost P 3, 000.00 and 8 pcs. Of tarpaulin that cost P 2, 800.00 to get

the total of P 10, 800.00 per year.

4.2 Product/Services

4.2.1 Description of the Service

24 | Page
LAVERIE RULES: You wear it, we wash it!

Washing  clothes  is one of the many things that people can never forget to do.

Even  the  early  times, Filipinos, especially women, tend to do their laundry as early as

the  sun  is  up.  This  is  to  make sure that their clothes will dry at the end of the day. In

the  Philippines,  laundry  shops  made  washing  clothes  at  ease  but  it  takes more time

to  visit  them  and  wait  for  several  days  for  the  customers  to  claim  it.  For  these

reasons,  the  proponents  of  this  study  comes  up  with  a  solution,  a  coin  operated

laundromat near you.

Laverie  is  a  laundromat  business  that  provides  a  higher  level of experience to

your  laundry  savvy.  It  offers  coin-operated  washing  machines  and  dryers  that

people  will  enjoy  using.  Since  it  is  a  self-service,  one  could  relax  while  waiting  for

their  laundry  to  finish.  Laverie  Inc.  will  be  situated  in  Demarses  Farmville,  Sta.  Fe

Village  corner  Mint  and  Oregano  Street,  Lopez  Avenue,  Brgy.  Batong  Malake,  Los

Banos,  Laguna  and  will  cater  most  of the students residing in the dormitories by the

area. It included:

-students of UPLB (served market)

-staff, employees and people residing near the area (unserved market)

4.2.2 Uses of the Service

Since  a  higher  level  of  experience  to  people’s  basic  laundry  know-how

is  the  primary  concern,  Laverie  can  be  an  alternative  way of washing clothes for the

reason that:

-it offers convenience because it is situated near the target market.

25 | Page
LAVERIE RULES: You wear it, we wash it!

-it offers coin-operated washing machines and dryers at a reasonable price.

-it  offers  the  customers  the  freedom of washing their own clothes separate with the

clothes  of  other  people.  It  will  also  benefit  the  people  of  UPLB,  given  that  they  are

exhausted  for  studying/working  long  hours and they still need to wash their clothes.

Customers  could  go to the shop, put their laundry in, and as they wait, they could do

extra  work  such  as  surfing  the  internet  or  reviewing  their  lessons  because  the shop

has provided free Wi-Fi.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC STUDY

7.1 Contribution to Philippine Economy

The  national  economy  is  composed  of  business  enterprises,  households,  and

the  government.  These  are  the  major  sectors  of  the  economy.  The  strength  or

weakness  of  one  sector  affects  the  other  sectors  because  of  their  interdependence.

We  have  a  market  economy  or  free  enterprise  economy.  This  means  that  economic

freedoms like free competition and free choice of investments are allowed.

Although  service-oriented,  we  will  be  purchasing  certain  goods  prior  to  our

operations.  Our  business  is  going  to  be  a  factor  not  only  in  the  increase  of  service

but also in the increase of production in the market.

77 | Page
LAVERIE RULES: You wear it, we wash it!

Furthermore,  this  project  will  contribute  to  the  government’s  income

generation  through  payment  of  appropriate  taxes  in  due  time,  since  taxes  are  main

source of income of the government.

7.2 Employment Generation

Unemployment  is  a  failure  that  marks  the  economic  record.  It  occurs  when

people are looking, willing, and able to work but cannot land a job.

This  project  will  help  lessen  the  nation’s  unemployment  rate.  Although  the

business  needs  only  four  (4)  employees,  it  will  provide  available  jobs  to  those  who

are  ready,  willing,  and  able  to  work  and  are  qualified  for  the  job.  It  will  give  them  a

source of income to sustain their daily living.

7.3 Social Desirability

Business  survival  depends  on  how  it  will  react  to  changes  –  the  economic,

social,  technical,  and  political  changes  that  challenge  the  business  world.  The

ultimate  survival  of  an  organization  depends on its ability to adapt to the demand of

its environment.

Every  business  has  an  obligation  to make a profit for its shareholders. Clearly,

it  also  has  obligations  to  operate  within  the  law.  While  there  is  widespread

agreement  on  these  two  business  obligations,  a  third  factor—social

desirability—must also be considered.

LAVERIE RULES: You wear it, we wash it!

Many  businesses  recognize  that  their  activities  involve  decisions  that  impact

their  employees, the environment, minority groups, and their local communities. As a

result,  they  feel  a  responsibility  to  contribute  positively  by  adopting  policies  that go

beyond their own narrow concerns of making a profit.

The  purpose  of  Laverie  aims  not  only  to  gain  profit  but  also  to  provide

self-service,  a  convenient  way  of  washing  clothes  not  only  for  University  of  the

Phillipines  Los  Baños  students  but  also  for  the  people  residing  near  UPLB.  The

municipal  government  will  notice  an  increase  in  collection  and  revenue  from  the

operations of Laverie.
