LESSON PLAN

Earth and Life Science

(SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL)
Grade 11
February 6-16 2018
I. Desired Learning Results
A. Essential Understanding:
Students will understand that:
1. Differences in temperature and density of rocks and metals inside Earth formed various
layers through differentiation.
B. Essential Questions:
Students will keep considering the following questions:
1. How are layers of the Earth different from one another?
2. How the properties of different materials are affected the formation of different layers of the
Earth?
C. Objectives:
1. Identify the Layers of the Earth
2. Differentiate the Layers of the Earth
D. Valuing:
1. Respect individual differences
2. Appreciate one’s uniqueness
II. Assessment/ Evidences
A. Performance Task
Introduce to the students their performance task: create their own model of the Earth’s Interior
B. Other Evidences of Learning(OEL)
Recitation, Seatwork, Homework, and students’ outputs.
III. Learning Plan
A. Learning Activities
1. Introductory
a. Prayer
b. Recall the concept of Solar System
c. Presentation of the learning objectives
Identify the Layers of the Earth
Differentiate the Layers of the Earth
d. Motivation
Video Analysis on Layers of the Earth
ACTIVITY: Think-Pair-Share
Let the students work in pairs. Using their science notebooks, challenge them to write
and share their understanding/learning they gained from the video clip presentation
with their partners.
Ask volunteers to share their ideas.

2. Enabling Activity
Conduct a short discussion regarding the different layers of the Earth using a Power
point Presentation.

GAME: Individual Differences

Group the students into four. Instruct them to follow the given directions below. All
drafts and outputs will be written on a manila paper to be distributed. Call volunteers
to share their output/presentation in class.
1. Interpersonal Group
2. Intrapersonal Group
3. Musical Group
4. Linguistic Group
Interpersonal Group
: Create a five-minute interview script for a talk show about the layers of the Earth
Intrapersonal Group
: Reflect on the importance/ significance of each layer. Identify two importance of
how people will be affected without each layer.
Musical Group
: Compose a song integrating the different layers of the Earth. (Note: Maximum of 5
minutes presentation)
Linguistic Group
: Make a poem about the different layers of Earth. Limit your poem to four stanzas of
four lines each.
3. Culminating Activity
a. Synthesis
3-2-1 STRATEGY: In a ½ sheet of paper (crosswise), let the students fill in the table
below.
3 Things You Have Learned 2 Things You Enjoyed Most 1 Question In Mind

b. Evaluation
The students will be assessed through a game entitled FACT or BLUFF
1. Volume and Temperature, affects the formation of the different layers of the
Earth. ANS: FACT
2. As temperature increases, pressure also increases. ANS: FACT
3. Core is the thickest layer of the Earth. ANS: BLUFF
4. Lithosphere is a soft layer of mantle on which pieces of the asthenosphere move.
ANS: BLUFF
5. Lithosphere covers the lower part of the crust and upper part of the mantle.
ANS: FACT
6. Crust is the thinnest layer of the Earth. ANS: FACT
7. Differences in temperature cause the formation of the layers of the Earth.
ANS: FACT
