SCHOOL: OC NIGHT HS QUARTER: FIRST QUARTER

TEACHER: REYBETH M. MARILLA SUBJECT: EARTH & LIFE SCIENCE
DATE: SEPTEMBER 8-9, 2022 TIME: 4:30 – 5:30 PM, 5:30-6:30 PM
& 6:45 – 7:45
DAY: THURSDAY & FRIDAY SECTION: 11- MATAPAT, MAGALANG
& MASIPAG

I. Objective
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of…

1. the formation of the universe and the solar system

2. the subsystems (geosphere, hydrosphere,

atmosphere, and

biosphere) that make up the Earth

3. the Earth’s internal structure

B. Performance Standards The learners should be able to

Conduct a survey to assess the possible geologic/

hydro meteorological hazards that your community
may experience.

C. Learning Competencies  Recognize the uniqueness of Earth, being the only

planet in the solar system with properties
necessary to support life. (S11/12ES‐Ia‐e‐3)

II. Content Origin and Structure of the Earth

B. Preparation (Poster Making)

1. Students will be grouped into 5

members.
2. Each group will choose a leader,
secretary, reporter and toastmaster.
3. Poster Making: Let the students draw
on the Manila paper any concept
depicting the Earth as the only
Habitable Planet.
4. Students will only be given 5 minutes
to prepare.
5. They must present the output in 3
minutes.
A. Development What did you feel while doing the activity?
Activity
How did you illustrate the Earth’s uniqueness in your
poster?

What makes the Earth unique from the other planets

in our Solar System?

Will Earth be able to sustain life if it remained in its

position and the sun was a massive star? Low-mas
star? Explain your answers.

B. Enrichment Discussion
Activity
The Solar System is composed of the sun and the
eight planets revolving around it. Among those eight
planets, only one can support life, which is the earth.
But how come earth can support life while the other
planets cannot?

There are two requirements for a planet to become

habitable. First, the star should survive long enough
for its planet to develop life. Second, the planet should
exist in a region where water could remain liquid. A
planet with the right temperature enables water to
remain in its liquid form, a necessary ingredient of life.
Scientist also believe that carbon and its unique
properties are the basis of all life. Carbon has four
valence atoms, which enables it to easily bond with
other carbon atoms and create long complex
molecules and polymers.

C. Application Let the students watch a short video on Climate

Change and ask them on how to save the Earth, for it
to sustain life.

“Since the Earth is our home, what do you think

would be your contribution to help protect and take
care of it?”

D. Assessment Answer the following briefly. (1 whole sheet of paper)

1.What are the two major requirements for a planet to

become habitable?
2.What are the different unique characteristics of the
Earth?
3.How did Miller-‐Urey conduct the experiment that
replicated the conditions of early Earth?

E. Assignment A. Make a “Fast facts” card that will show basic

information of the members of the Solar System.
B. Watch and study the video about the story of Earth.
