Organic compounds contain carbon and include carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Each of these compounds serves different functions in the human body, such as carbohydrates being an energy source and proteins performing structural and regulatory roles. Testing can identify organic compounds present in a substance using indicators that cause color changes specific to each compound. This lab will test for carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids provided by the teacher using indicators to identify compounds by their color change.

Organic compound is the compound that contains carbon inside.
Carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids are examples of organic compounds. These four organic compounds also use in human body, but perform in different function for each one. Carbohydrates are the source of energy for our body. The proteins are organic compound that perform many functions in the body including structure and regulation of the body organs and tissues. The lipids are the long term energy usage source and acting like an insulator to the body, too. Lastly, the nucleic acids are the molecules that make up DNA and RNA in our body. There is a substance that can be used to test the presence of the organic compound (Organic compounds article, page 42). Some different organic compounds can use the same type of indicator to test the presence of it, but some need to use specific indicator that can be used to test only that compound(Organic compounds article, page 42). If the right indicator is being used to test the right organic compound, the color of the substance will be change (Organic compounds, page 42).
In this lab, we will be testing the presence of carbohydrate, protein,
and lipid in the substances that provide by the teacher. If the color of the substance is change when we drop the indicator, then there are the organic compounds contain inside that substance. Each color refer to different organic compounds.
