SENIOR HIGH SCH OOL

Work Immersion
Narrative Report

Amidst of all the misconceptions and realizations that the first day had given to me, the second
day was very enlightening. In the morning we had a small symposium wherein we were educated
about mental health and issues by Francis Saolo C. Juan, MSN.

It turns out that mental issues can be obtained through one’s lifestyle. It can start with anxiety,
feeling of unease, such as worry or fear that can be mild or severe it can be called severe when
an individual cannot able to do their everyday routine normally. Next to anxiety is depression,
with all of the anxiety that a person cannot overcome he/she can potentially be led to depression.
Depressed people negatively affects how they feel, think and act. It also causes the feelings of
being sad and losing the interest in activities once enjoyed. Though it is treatable some severe
cases are hard to treat, some are suicidal and controlled by the inner voices within them. If these
inner voices within them are over powering and an individual starts following it then an
individual already possesses a mental illness called schizophrenia. It is characterized by
delusions, hallucinations, and other cognitive difficulties, schizophrenia can often be a lifelong
struggle.

The symposium enlightened everyone’s assumptions and misconceptions, it also raised

awareness and cautions about taking a good care of one’s mental health. If one doesn’t have a
strength in handling ones’ emotion then it is not inevitable to have a mental illness.

I also grew more fondness to all of the patients. The stories behind why they became a patient
are really saddening some were beaten, lost their loved ones and the stories just goes on and on
and I cannot help to have compassion to them.

In the afternoon, we were the ones who were in charge to the Out Patient Department (OPD). I
have never felt more useful that day, I was the one who were taking the blood pressure of the
patients. I have encountered different kind of patients varying in different ages. It surprised me to
see patients, who were even younger than me and it I pity them to experience such thing in such
an early age.
