4.4 Original certified test reports for chemistry and mechanical properties of the flanges and/or
fittings shall be provided the BUYER and shall be reviewed by the BUYER's representative
for acceptance or rejection of the product.
4.5 The specified minimum yield strength of the material shall be 65,000 psi and the specified
minimum tensile strength shall be 77,000 psi.
4.6 Forgings shall be supplied in the normalized or normalized and tempered heat treat
condition. Full details of the intended heat treatments and the resultant material properties
shall be supplied to the BUYER for approval.
4.7 A product analysis shall be performed on one flange of a test forging, per cast for forgings

4.8 The BUYER reserves the right to order additional test for chemistry and mechanical
properties in case of doubts about country origin or uncertified mills, without additional
cost.
5.1 The manufacturer shall submit to the BUYER for approval, a detailed manufacturing
procedure at the receipt of the purchase order, which includes all manufacturing operations
in correct sequence. The procedure shall include material specifications, forming process,
heat treatment, inspection and testing.
5.2 A manufacturing procedure qualification test shall be required unless the manufacturer
demonstrates to the satisfaction of the BUYER that previous fabrication and testing
experience of similar flanges meets specified requirement. Otherwise, a manufacturing
procedure qualification test shall be provided.
5.3 Weld repairs to forgings shall not be allowed and are cause for rejection of the forging.
5.4 Minor defects may be removed by grinding, provided that the forging shall meet the minimum
requirements of the flange rating, the remaining wall thickness is not less than 94% of the
nominal wall thickness and there is a smooth transition between the ground area and the
original contour. Cracks may not be repaired and are cause for rejection. If the flange
requires a groove, no defects in the groove are permitted.
5.5 5.Where flanges are machined they shall meet the following surface texture requirement as
defined:
5.6 The peripheries of the flanges are to be machined within +/- 1.0 mm.

5.7 Flanges shall not have machining on the back face. The hub section shall be grit blasted and
all scale removed.
5.10 All welding preparations and joint faces shall be square to the axis of the fitting within a
tolerance of 2.5 mm.
5.11 The bolt circle shall be concentric with the flange and within tolerance limits of +/- 1.5 mm.
Additionally, the chordal pitch of the bolt holes shall be within +/- 1.5 mm.
5.12 The inside diameter of the bore shall be machined to match the internal diameter of the
pipe. The tolerance on the internal diameter shall be the nominal internal diameter + 2.4
mm and - 0.8 mm.
6.1 The forgings shall be sound and free from defects such as cracks, scabs and laminations.
Defects in forgings shall not be repaired unless approved by the BUYER's representative.
6.2 A mechanical test specimen shall be taken to represent each heat-treated batch of each heat
of material.
6.3 Fracture toughness shall be determine by the use of the Charpy V-Notch test in accordance
with ASTM A-370 (Type A notch). The test shall be conducted at 32°F. For acceptance,
the average of three individual full size specimens from each heat lot of flange or fitting
material shall not be less than 35 ft/lb with the lowest value of any specimen of 25 ft/lb.
Charpy specimens shall exhibit 80% shear fracture appearance minimum for acceptance.
6.4 Tensile test specimens shall be prepared and tested in accordance with ASTM A-370. The
minimum yield strength shall be 65,000 psi and the minimum tensile strength shall be
77,000 psi.
6.5 The maximum hardness of the flanges and fittings shall not exceed Rockwell C 20. The hardness
survey shall be carried out on heat-treated flange specimens for each heat-treated lot. Two
flanges or fittings from each lot shall be tested.
