    PREPARATIONS FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF COMPETENCY TEST


    TO AUTOMOTIVE’S MECHANICAL SKILL PROGRAM AT
    SMK NEGERI NUSAWUNGU CILACAP

    This research was intended to know (1) preparations made by SMK by means of
    competency test, (2) preparations made by business/industries partners on the
    competency test (3) subject to be tested and (4) obstacles faced by each parties in
    purposes of preparations to the implementation of Competency Test at SMK Negeri
    Nusawuingu Cilacap Academic Year 2007/2008.
    The research method used in this thesis is using descriptive qualitative approach.
    The data collecting process taken by interviews, observations, documentations, and
    translated into sentences forms. Data analisis according to S. Nasution i.e., with data
    reduction, data displays, and verified to be analized for conclusion afterwards.
    Results from this research indicates that preparations made by SMK Negeri
    Nusawungu Cilacap in order to face Competency Test covers: work competency
    standards, examiners, participants, test subjects, sites, costs, methods, and time for the
    Test. Preparations made by SMK Negeri Nusawungu Cilacap have reached 75 %,
    categorized as good. Preparations made by business/industries to face Competency
    Test covers: work competency standards, examiners, participants, test subjects, sites,
    costs, methods, and time held for the Test. Their preparations have reached 75 %,
    categorized as good. The subject of Competency Test to Automotive’s Mechanical
    Skill at SMK Negeri Nusawungu Cilacap Academic Year 2007/2008 covers: engine
    tune-up, brake system’s maintenance and repairing, and lighting system. The subject
    preparations tested by Automotive’s Mechanical Skill Program at SMK Negeri
    Nusawungu Cilacap & industries have reached 50% so that it categorized as very
    low. Obstacle which generally faced by both parties is the amount of examiners. This
    obstacle have reached into 25%, categorized as good. This obstacle is certainly
    handled or decreased with efforts of maximizing the resources available.
