Reflective Writing

For my signature assignment I decided to choose the topic young adult depression.

Depression for the longest time was considered a taboo to talk about and seek help for. Now

society is learning to accept that talking and receiving help on mental health is not a sign of

weakness but a sign of strength. I chose the depression for young adult because depression

and suicide for their age group is on the rise.

The reason I decided to choose young adult depression is because I am a young adult

and have also been depressed at times and wanted to understand better how depression

affects people my age and what are some ways people cope with depression. While doing this

project I learned how depression affects many different age groups, I thought depression was

generic and it was treated all the same but it is the opposite. Learning signs of depression has

helped me manage it better in my daily life, I am much less stressed and depressed at times

with the knowledge I found taking this course and the research I did.

With knowledge comes power, and power comes strength. Young adult depression

awareness can help young adult in times of need and save someone’s life. The more we are

made aware of young adult depression the better we can help people with the disease receive

treatment and get the help they deserve. Mental health is nothing to be ashamed of we all

experience it in many different levels throughout our lives, some worse than others. Taking the

first steps to receive help for your mental illness Is you taking charge of your life. We are in

control of our lives not depression.
