Method to achieve CAES

We take the combination of Advanced Adiabatic CAES and wind turbine as example
to explain the method to achieve the application of CAES. In this system, we have
three main parts which are wind grid, AA-CAES plant and the load. Usually we use
the compressor to store the wind energy in the form of compressed air. But before we
store the air into the cavern we have to cool it down, which decrease the efficiency of
the energy storage. And also when we make use of this stored energy we have to heat
the air up first which is also bad to the efficiency. So we come up with a method
named Advanced Adiabatic CAES shown below.

Figure 1 One of several Adiabatic CAES cycle concepts considered within the AA-CAES Project 2.

This method helps improve the efficiency of the CAES system by reserving the heat
that dissipated in the process of cooling the compressed air in a vessel. When there is
a low level generation of the nature energy but the demand is high, then we can
combine the compressed air with the heat we stored before with the fuel and make the
combustion to supply the energy. In this method, there are some challenge that we
need to solve. First one is how to deliver the compressed air in a high temperature and
high pressure. Second one is how to store the heat that dissipated by the compressed
air. Let me make an assumption about this two problem. When talked about high
temperature and high pressure we can think about the core of the earth. Can we
similarly use the cavern to transfer and store the energy as the compressed air system
does. To sum up, CAES is not a new technology but a highly-used technology in the
future life. Hope the scientists can come up with more method to improve the CAES
to make it better.
