Munnar- Heaven in South.

Munnar is a very popular hill-station in the state of Kerala. Aroma of Tea & coffee plantations will
welcome you and can be felt from far away. It was a popular summer holiday home during British era in
India.

Munnar has beautiful mountain décor stretching miles and miles across your view. It isn’t just 50 shades
of green, much more than that. Along with mystic beauty of mesmerizing mountain range, it has wide
range of wild life sanctuary & hues of ancient south Indian culture.

Be a traveler, not a tourist!

1. Visit Tea plantations

One of the best things to do in hilly area is have your cup of Chai! Munnar has many private Tea
plantations site for big companies like TATA. You can also visit on-route Tea plantations or Kannan Devan
Hills to get detailed tour guide of various types of Tea plants. Smell of Tea and coffee will make you high -
with greenery around, higher! Make sure you don’t get caught lurking in private Tea plantations. They
take care as their own daughters and with a shotgun maybe. Many small Maggie stalls will help you to
erase hunger in between so you can carry some less stuffs.

2. Top Hill View:

Who wants their photo surrounded by natural scenic beauty? This is going to give you your next social
media post! Foggy & cool breeze will soothe your nerves and make you feel relaxed. Go give your best
pose!

Scenic long drive with curvy roads counts as an adventure of a lifetime. If you’re going on a Two-wheeler,
make sure to park your vehicle properly & avoid parking on curves. Trust me, the hills! They swallow!

3. Mattupetty Dam

It’s little far from the city center of Munnar but guess what? that’s why we are here, to travel! A must
visit place for its tranquility. You can visit this place nearly afternoon when water outlet of Dam is not
open or in morning to get a beautiful view of the river valley. A treat to your eyes! You can also find local
chaats & few games around to enjoy with your partner. However, it’s a little overcrowded during
holidays. So plan your holidays!

4. Kathakali Dance
Fiery Big eyes, colorful as you’ve never seen. Do watch the native musical play of nearly half an hour at
Punarjani. You can also watch ancient gymnastics and sword fight practices – known as kalarippayat. It
will help you to understand local culture with entertaining session. So just sit back & enjoy!

5. Kerala Massage

When in God’s own country, feel like a God or a Goddess!! Pamper yourself with exotic massages with
ancient Kerala massages. It usually starts from Rupees 1200/hour to Rupees 4.5/5k depending upon the
packages you select. There are many centers for this luxurious treatment. You can ask your hotel
manager for best ones nearby. Do let masseuse know if you have any ailment before starting off with
your most amazing me time.

6. Church visits

The British left behind a glory of beautiful architectural illustration. Munnar has a lot of beautiful
churches in town. You can visit famous Mt. Carmel Church (The famous Life of pie church). They have
astonishing architecture along with peaceful environment. You can also give a visit to the oldest church
CSI church associated with British Era. It will remind you of few horror movie churches if you are fan of
them (Like me).

What to Eat?
You can eat from huge south Indian variety from appam to softest idlis! If you’re from north India, urging
for homely food, you can try various Rajasthani/Gujarati restaurants starting from main market till
Kannan Devan Tea souvenir shop. Following are few restaurants which helped me get load of it during

How to roam around/local transport?


If you’re travelling with family, it would be advisable to book a cab from Cochin/ Munnar before arriving.
If you have your own vehicle & stay somewhere in south India, turn up the music system & convert it
into road trip.

You can book scooty/bike from Munnar on 24hrs/2 days basis with as low as (Amount) INR. Of course, fill
up the petrol according to your needs.
Make sure to carry original DL along with one photo-address proof. They won’t allow you to travel
without it.
