Description:
Promotion of self-awareness of our daily lifestyle choices that impact our health and well-being. Includes
dynamic alignment training, postural assessment, mind-body (somatic) training, wellness model, nutrition,
relaxation, and self-care techniques.

Course Learning Outcomes:


Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
1. Identify deviations in the spinal curves from a plumb line analysis.
2. Identify the key principles to the different mind-body therapies.
3. Describe the six aspects of the Wellness Model.
4. Describe relaxation techniques to reduce tension and stress.

Outline:
I. Dynamic Alignment Training
A. Plumb line analysis of neutral standing alignment
B. Proper body mechanics
C. Effect of motivation, mood, and emotional state on alignment and mechanics
II. Postural Assessment
A. Develop skills to identify postural imbalances
B. Recognize accompanying muscle weaknesses and inflexibility with postural imbalance
III. Mind-Body (Somatic) Training
A. Sensory re-education techniques/mind-body therapies
B. Experiential anatomic knowledge
C. Developing self-awareness of habitual postural patterns
IV. Wellness Model
A. Six dimensions of wellness
B. Personal application of wellness model
V. Nutrition
A. Macronutrients and micronutrients
B. Energy balance
1. Calculating caloric needs
2. Adequacy and moderation
VI. Relaxation
VII. Self-Care Techniques
